About The Position

The Early Language and Literacy Initiative (ELLI®) is an innovative, research-based early childhood program designed to close the early learning achievement gap through play-based learning, language development, literacy, and STEAM experiences. At ELLI, we believe even our youngest learners deserve nurturing relationships, responsive care, and meaningful early experiences. Our infant educators create warm, engaging environments where children feel safe, connected, and supported in reaching developmental milestones. Whether located at Stepping Stones Museum for Children, Norwalk Public Schools, or Fairfield University, our educators work as part of collaborative teaching teams dedicated to helping children and families thrive.

Requirements

  • Associate's Degree or higher in Early Childhood Education OR Bachelor’s Degree in a related field with at least 12 credits in Child Development or Early Childhood Education
  • Minimum one (1) year of professional childcare or classroom experience

Nice To Haves

  • Experience leading or mentoring classroom staff
  • Experience working with infants in a group care setting
  • Knowledge of Connecticut Early Learning and Development Standards (CT ELDS)
  • Strong communication and family engagement skills
  • Bilingual Spanish/English

Responsibilities

  • Lead an infant classroom by creating responsive, nurturing, and developmentally appropriate learning experiences.
  • Support infants’ cognitive, language, physical, and social-emotional development through play, routines, and meaningful interactions.
  • Build warm, trusting relationships with children and families.
  • Supervise and support classroom team members while modeling positive teaching practices.
  • Maintain a safe, clean, nurturing, and inclusive classroom environment.
  • Partner with families through daily communication, conferences, workshops, and family events.
  • Observe and document children’s growth, development, and milestones.
  • Support classroom routines including feeding, diapering, sleeping, transitions, tummy time, and sensory exploration.
  • Collaborate with teaching team members to implement ELLI’s curriculum and approach.
  • Ensure compliance with NAEYC standards and Connecticut licensing regulations.
