About The Position

This is a full-time position in the Radiology Support department at AMC Grafton. The Lead Imaging Assistant acts as a resource for employees and students, providing training, day-to-day work direction, and input on performance. They are responsible for assigning, monitoring, and reviewing work, managing productivity and staffing levels, and guiding staff on complex issues. The role also involves assisting with human resource functions, interpreting policies, identifying performance improvement opportunities, and managing department resources. Additionally, the Lead Imaging Assistant serves as a technical resource and preceptor, facilitates clinical problem-solving, and collaborates with other departments. Patient interaction includes greeting, answering phones, scheduling, preparing patients for exams, and providing basic instructions. The role utilizes radiology computer systems, organizes exam rooms, prepares reports and images, manages health information records, and documents patient information. Transporting patients and performing routine maintenance and quality monitoring of imaging equipment are also key duties. The position requires the ability to provide age-appropriate patient care, demonstrating knowledge of growth and development across the lifespan.

Requirements

  • High School Graduate.
  • Typically requires 3 years of experience in clerical/administrative support and/or in providing leadership.
  • Demonstrated leadership skills such as delegation, team building and decision making.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; ability to effectively communicate with a variety of patients, staff and physicians.
  • Excellent customer service and organizational skills.
  • Intermediate computer skills including experience in using computer applications/systems and electronic mail.
  • Must be able to follow directions and work well both independently and with technologists, physicians, and patients.
  • Demonstrated project coordination skills.
  • Ability to work in a fast paced environment with a strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Maintains confidentiality at all times.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers certification issued by the American Heart Association (AHA) needs to be obtained within 6 months unless department leader has determined it is not required.

Responsibilities

  • Acts as a resource to employees and students, which includes training/orienting, providing day-to-day work direction, and giving input on performance.
  • Assigns, monitors, and reviews progress and accuracy of work, monitors productivity, maintains appropriate staffing levels, directs efforts and provides guidance on more complex issues.
  • Assists with human resource responsibilities, which may include interviewing and selection of new employees, staff development, providing performance feedback, resolution of employee concerns, and employee morale.
  • Assists in interpreting department policies and procedures, and advises and updates staff on procedural changes.
  • Identifies performance improvement opportunities within the department and facilitates change.
  • Monitors inventory levels, labor productivity and assist with managing department resources.
  • Serves as a technical resource, role model and/or preceptor for students and staff.
  • Facilitates clinical problem solving and collaborates with other departments across the system to provide education on managing patients after procedures and any other imaging department processes and procedures.
  • Greets patients and visitors and responds to routine requests for information, reports or film loans.
  • Promptly answers telephone, screens calls, schedules patient appointments, and takes messages.
  • Assists patient in preparation for exam and transferring patients to and from exam rooms.
  • Provides basic instruction to patients regarding routine procedures, i.e. changing clothes, position for exams, etc.
  • Uses radiology computer systems to generate requisitions, check schedules, and obtain pertinent patient information.
  • Organizes and prepares exam rooms and work areas, including cleaning, stocking, ordering supplies, and maintaining equipment.
  • Provides radiology reports and/or radiographic images to staff, physicians, patients and/or family upon request.
  • Files, retrieves, and releases health information records and films.
  • Compiles film jackets/discs and completes required forms/documentation.
  • Documents requested information and promptly communicates observations, concerns, and needs of the patient with physicians and other members of the health care team.
  • Transports patients between departments and escorts patients, families, and visitors as needed.
  • Completes routine maintenance and quality monitoring of imaging equipment using appropriate technique when cleaning, sterilizing and caring for instruments and other equipment.
  • Must be able to demonstrate knowledge and skills necessary to provide care appropriate to the age of the patients served.
  • Must demonstrate knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span and possess the ability to assess data reflective of the patient's status and interpret the appropriate information needed to identify each patient's requirements relative to his/her age-specific needs, and to provide the care needed as described in the department's policies and procedures.
