About The Position

Under general supervision, provides lead direction in the operation of medium and heavy equipment used in the construction and maintenance of Washoe County roads and facilities; and performs related work as required. This is an Open Competitive/Countywide Promotional recruitment being conducted to fill a current full-time vacancy in the Community Services Department. The list established from this recruitment may be used to fill future vacancies as they occur.

Requirements

  • Four years of progressively responsible work experience in maintenance and construction work, including at least one year of experience in operating heavy equipment; OR any equivalent combination of training and experience.
  • A valid Class A State of Nevada Commercial Driver's License with tanker endorsement is required at the time of application and must be maintained for continued employment in this classification.
  • Employees in this classification, as CDL holders, are subject to drug and alcohol testing according to applicable County policies.
  • Background checks will be conducted on selected applicants through the State of Nevada and the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
  • Washoe County requires its employees to reside in the state of Nevada or neighboring California communities such as Truckee, South Lake Tahoe or Susanville as of their first day of work.

Nice To Haves

  • Advanced training and experience with various types of heavy equipment used in a construction environment, preferably in road maintenance.
  • Experience leading people or projects in a construction or road maintenance environment.
  • Experience working in inclement weather conditions, including performing snow removal operations.
  • Strong organization, planning, time management, prioritizing, and communications skills.
  • Experience with tracking and reporting labor, materials, and project data.

Benefits

  • Eligible employees may receive an annual merit increase of 5% until they reach the maximum salary for the classification.
  • Upon promotion, current Washoe County employees are placed at the minimum rate of the salary range for the higher classification of the new position OR a promotional calculation, whichever is greater.
