Lead Hardware Engineer

Anduril•Waltham, MA

About The Position

Anduril Imaging develops imaging systems across hardware and software for security applications, using computer vision, perception, electro-optical, infrared, and sensor data. The Lead Hardware Engineer is responsible for hardware architecture, development execution, and technical strategy for EO/IR applications across land, sea, air, and space. The role leads system-architecture trade studies, multidisciplinary design, analysis, and prototype and product integration and testing, and guides a small engineering team from concept through system definition and development. The role carries products through New Product Introduction (NPI) into production and oversees hardware sustainment and evolutionary development. It also contributes to internal and external investment priorities to expand the scope and impact of the product family.

Requirements

  • Degree in a technical field such as mechanical engineering, electrical engineering, optical engineering, systems engineering, mathematics, or a hard science.
  • 8+ years of experience developing and deploying electromechanical systems, including work in one or more of system design, architecture definition, performance modeling, requirements allocation, and laboratory or field testing.
  • Experience managing New Product Introduction and exposure to system sustainment at scale.
  • Deep understanding of system architecture, mission requirements, and full product lifecycle development.
  • Proven experience leading high-performance engineering teams, ideally in a fast-paced, cross-functional environment.
  • Must be able to obtain and hold a U.S. security clearance.
  • Willingness to travel to test sites as needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience defining and/or designing optical or imaging systems.
  • Knowledge of current and next-generation advanced sensing systems and platforms.
  • Experience with rapid prototyping and iterative development environments.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced design tools, simulation, and test equipment.

Responsibilities

  • Own concept design and hardware architecture decisions for new engineering efforts.
  • Partner with Chief Engineers and product teams to align engineering execution with broader mission and capability goals.
  • Lead engineering execution across hardware engineering disciplines.
  • Apply engineering expertise across mechanical, electrical, optical, and firmware disciplines to create robust system architectures that address mission needs.
  • Lead trade studies to define EO/IR system architectures and lead multidisciplinary detailed design, analysis, integration, and testing of prototypes and products.
  • Lead a small team of engineers from concept ideation through system definition and development.
  • Drive products through NPI, including leading initial builds, owning clear-to-build, generating procedures and processes, and defining verification and validation metrics.
  • Own the continuous-improvement roadmap and execution for sustainment, oversee CRB activities, address issues affecting the business, and ensure timely, robust responses to field issues.
  • Prioritize work across products within a mission area.
  • Help shape internal and external investment priorities to grow the scope and impact of the product family.

Benefits

  • Highly competitive equity grants are included in the majority of full-time offers.
  • Top-tier benefits for full-time employees, including a comprehensive, competitive benefits package available at little to no cost to employees.
