About The Position

South Shore Sails is seeking a passionate and experienced Lead Group Coach to lead and manage daily practices for assigned age-group training groups. This role involves developing and implementing practice plans aligned with the club's training philosophy and long-term athlete development goals. The coach will be responsible for teaching proper techniques, providing constructive feedback, motivating swimmers, and fostering a positive, disciplined, and competitive training environment. Key responsibilities include monitoring athlete progress, communicating effectively with swimmers, parents, and staff, attending and coaching at swim meets, and promoting the team's culture and standards. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in competitive swimming, excellent leadership and communication skills, and a commitment to athlete development.

Requirements

  • Competitive swimming background required; collegiate swimming experience preferred.
  • Previous coaching experience with age-group or competitive swimmers strongly preferred.
  • Experience leading or managing a training group preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of stroke mechanics, starts, turns, underwaters, training methodologies, and race preparation.
  • Ability to plan and conduct organized, purposeful, and engaging swim practices.
  • Ability to motivate and develop swimmers of varying ages and skill levels.
  • Strong leadership, communication, organizational, and time-management skills.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and effectively with athletes, parents, and staff.
  • Dependable, enthusiastic, and committed to athlete development and team success.
  • Current USA Swimming Coach Membership and required certifications, or willingness and ability to obtain all required certifications prior to employment.
  • Current CPR, First Aid, and Safety Training for Swim Coaches certifications, or ability to obtain them.

Nice To Haves

  • USA Swimming Coach Membership in good standing.
  • Previous experience as a Lead Group Coach, Head Age Group Coach, or similar leadership position.
  • Experience coaching swimmers at championship-level meets.
  • Experience developing age-group swimmers through a progressive training program.
  • Understanding of both short-course and long-course training and competition.
  • Experience using Team Unify, HY-TEK, or similar swim team management software.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage daily practices for assigned age-group training groups.
  • Develop and implement practice plans consistent with the South Shore Sails training philosophy and long-term athlete development goals.
  • Teach and reinforce proper stroke technique, starts, turns, underwaters, finishes, and racing strategies.
  • Provide constructive feedback and individualized instruction to swimmers.
  • Establish clear expectations for practice attendance, effort, behavior, and team standards.
  • Monitor athlete progress through goal setting, performance evaluation, skill development, and competition results.
  • Motivate swimmers while creating a positive, disciplined, and competitive training environment.
  • Communicate regularly and professionally with swimmers, parents, the Head Coach, and other members of the coaching staff.
  • Provide parents with appropriate updates regarding swimmer development, group expectations, schedules, and progression.
  • Attend and coach assigned local, regional, championship, and travel swim meets.
  • Assist with swimmer event selection, meet preparation, warm-ups, race strategy, and post-race feedback.
  • Work collaboratively with other coaches to ensure continuity and progression throughout the South Shore Sails program.
  • Participate in staff meetings, team events, clinics, tryouts, and community outreach activities.
  • Help identify swimmers who are ready for advancement within the club's training group structure.
  • Promote South Shore Sails' team culture, standards, and expectations both on and off the pool deck.
  • Maintain a positive, inclusive, professional, and safe training environment.
  • Adhere to all USA Swimming policies, Safe Sport requirements, athlete protection guidelines, and South Shore Sails policies.
