About The Position

The Lead Front End Engineer is a senior-level technologist and strategic contributor at the forefront of Citi's digital transformation. This role sits at the intersection of engineering excellence and enterprise architecture, responsible for establishing, implementing, and elevating the application systems that power one of the world's most complex financial institutions. We are seeking a deeply experienced practitioner who brings not only mastery of modern front-end technologies, but the analytical rigor and architectural sensibility to translate ambitious business goals into resilient, scalable, and beautifully crafted digital experiences.
In this role, the successful candidate will operate as a trusted technical authority across cross-functional teams, partnering with senior management, product owners, infrastructure, and architecture stakeholders to ensure seamless integration of systems and strategic alignment of technology investments. They will drive standards for development, testing, and delivery; resolve high-impact, complex engineering challenges; and shape the direction of front-end application design across the organization. Their work will directly influence how Citi's clients and colleagues interact with technology — making them a cornerstone of Citi's mission to deliver secure, reliable, and innovative financial services at global scale.

Requirements

• 6+ years of hands-on experience in application development or systems analysis, with a strong track record of delivering production-grade software solutions
• Extensive experience in systems analysis and the end-to-end programming of complex software applications, with demonstrated depth across the full development lifecycle
• Proven experience designing, building, and shipping successful projects from conception through deployment in enterprise-scale environments
• Recognized subject matter expertise in at least one domain of applications development, with the ability to serve as the go-to technical resource for that area
• Proficiency in modern JavaScript frameworks such as React, with hands-on experience building scalable, high-performance single-page applications
• Strong command of HTML5, CSS3, and responsive design principles, including cross-browser compatibility and accessibility standards (WCAG)
• Experience with front-end build tools such as Webpack and npm, including pipeline configuration, module bundling, and dependency management
• Hands-on experience with version control systems, particularly Git, including branching strategies, pull request workflows, and code review best practices
• Proficiency with testing frameworks such as Jest, React Testing Library, JUnit, or Mockito, with experience building robust unit, integration, and end-to-end test suites
• Experience with cloud platforms such as AWS (EC2, S3, Lambda) or Microsoft Azure, with the ability to deploy and maintain front-end applications in cloud-native environments
• Strong knowledge of CI/CD tools including Jenkins, GitLab CI/CD, or GitHub Actions, with hands-on experience automating build, test, and deployment workflows for front-end applications
• Solid understanding of secure coding practices, application security principles, and vulnerability mitigation in web applications
• Familiarity with Agile development methodologies including Scrum and Kanban, with experience participating in sprint ceremonies and iterative delivery cycles
• Ability to independently reprioritize and adapt technical focus in response to shifting business needs and project circumstances
• Consistently demonstrates clear and concise written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to both technical and non-technical audiences
• Bachelor's degree/University degree or equivalent experience
• Master's degree preferred

Responsibilities

• Partner with multiple management teams to ensure appropriate integration of functions to meet goals as well as identify and define necessary system enhancements to deploy new products and process improvements
• Resolve variety of high impact problems/projects through in-depth evaluation of complex business processes, system processes, and industry standards
• Provide expertise in area and advanced knowledge of applications programming and ensure application design adheres to the overall architecture blueprint
• Utilize advanced knowledge of system flow and develop standards for coding, testing, debugging, and implementation
• Develop comprehensive knowledge of how areas of business, such as architecture and infrastructure, integrate to accomplish business goals
• Provide in-depth analysis with interpretive thinking to define issues and develop innovative solutions
• Serve as advisor or coach to mid-level developers and analysts, allocating work as necessary
• Appropriately assess risk when business decisions are made, demonstrating particular consideration for the firm's reputation and safeguarding Citigroup, its clients and assets, by driving compliance with applicable laws, rules and regulations, adhering to Policy, applying sound ethical judgment regarding personal behavior, conduct and business practices, and escalating, managing and reporting control issues with transparency
