About The Position

DC Central Kitchen (DCCK) seeks a Lead Food Service Worker to join our dynamic team and support our mission of “combating hunger and creating opportunity.” DCCK provides cooked from scratch, locally sourced nutritious meals to students at over 30 schools throughout Washington DC. Under the direction of the Field Operations Manager the Lead Food Service Worker will be responsible for ensuring daily operations are executed according to all contract requirements and company protocols. Also, the candidate will help maintain a professional clean working atmosphere adhering to all ServeSafe and HACCP standards.

Requirements

  • Must complete criminal background check and pre-employment drug screen
  • Ability to work in an environment where exposure to unusual elements such as extreme temperatures, fumes, dirt, smoke, loud noise, and a variety of odors is common
  • Ability to lift 25 lbs., comfortable with strenuous outdoor activity; Moderate physical activity required.
  • Desire to be part of a large nonprofit whose mission is to "combat hunger and create opportunity"
  • Demonstrated hotel or restaurant experience preferably in a large quantity production environment.
  • 1-Year of Culinary experience.
  • High School Diploma
  • Ability to maintain ServSafe Food Safety Certification.

  • Culinary Graduate Preferred
  • Associate degree or higher preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate with team members to execute breakfast, lunch, supper and all DCPS meal programs in accordance to contractual regulation
  • Assign daily production tasks to team members making certain recipes are posted
  • Ensure all meals are accurately accounted for in the Point of Sales system and reconciled at the end of day
  • Accurately complete the production records for breakfast, lunch and supper during and after each meal period
  • Assure that all food safety ServSafe and HACCP regulations are followed
  • Coordinate with School Foods Assistant to accurately account for monthly inventory and maintain appropriate par levels
  • Maintain a positive working relationship with DCPS administration and coworkers
  • Assist School Foods Management team in events and contractual requirements as assigned
  • Participate in bi-monthly meetings with School Foods Management team
  • Send weekly commentary to explain the variance in student meal participation
  • Any meal substitutions need to be communicated to and approved by the Registered Dietitian
  • Complete the food donation form each week and send to the Lab and Food management team
  • Follow the production emergency, daily invoicing, school food donation, food delivery ticket and the SFS Lead Master Task List protocol each day, week and monthly
  • Scan Invoices to Bill.com to ensure proper accounting is performed
  • Place orders for dairy, supplies, bread, office supplies and allergy food according to established protocols
  • Participate in professional development training
  • Participate in activities that will promote the school food service program.
  • Maintain all company records as required by contract
  • Conduct annual and mid-year reviews with staff members
  • Communicate with Field Operations Manager with any operational concern including equipment and staff support
  • Effectively communicate with School Foods Management team
