About The Position

The Lead Field Machinist is responsible for executing complex tasks as assigned by the Service Supervisor, Project Manager, and/or other Management. The Lead Field Machinist will be responsible for leading projects and supervising Service Technicians. The Lead Field Machinist is experienced in the set up and operations of a wide variety of portable (on-site) machining tools such as clamshells, milling equipment, ID/OD flange facers, boring bars, journal machines, drills and other specialty equipment. Primary role is to perform on-site machine work and repairs at client job sites. The Lead Field Machinist is expected to conduct all activities with accountability, professionalism, and respect, ensuring that work is completed in compliance with BlueFin’s quality and safety standards. This position requires a higher degree of initiative and independent judgment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent required.
  • 5 years’ experience in the energy industry.
  • At least 2 years’ Machinist experience.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Extensive travel may be required.
  • Ability to work in harsh environmental conditions.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Ability to pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, Fit for Duty, and / or physical.

Responsibilities

  • Performing pipe cutting and beveling, flange resurfacing, milling of pump and motor bases, line boring, drilling and tapping, and stud removal.
  • Direct and perform field services in accordance with work plan, procedures, and/or Standard Operating Procedure (SOP).
  • Ability to distinguish the work at hand from the work plan/procedure and how to proceed while making field decisions to drive the project.
  • Knowledge and proven ability to operate equipment utilized and to train employees on such equipment.
  • Lead a field work crew of two or more personnel.
  • Proficient in one or more industrial service product lines.
  • Ability to train and develop Service Technicians on job requirements.
  • Service, maintain, repair, and test equipment/ tools for pre/post jobs or as instructed in shop.
  • Load/ unload equipment when required.
  • Write or participate in writing Job Safety and Environmental Analysis (JSEA) for job task assigned.
  • Increase knowledge by attending training on other product lines and services.
  • Participation and compliance with BlueFin HSE and Quality Management System.
  • Comply with all company policies (Safety, quality, general, SOP’s, etc.).
  • Required to work on both land and offshore jobs.
  • Available 24-hour call (except for scheduled PTO).
  • Travel through United States and Gulf of Mexico; staying overnight for extended periods.
  • Communicate effectively with clients and co-workers both office and field related.
  • Other duties as assigned.
