About The Position

Assists in leading team and performing assigned work relative to repair, preventive and corrective maintenance, renovation, and inspection of Maintenance Facilities for Dallas Area Rapid Transit's (DART) Maintenance of Way and Facility Maintenance.

Requirements

  • Associates Degree from an accredited college or university or certification from an accredited technical program in Electronics, Plumbing, Heat/Air Conditioning, and Construction Technology, plus one (1) year experience as a repairperson with a commercial company with knowledge of work routines, procedures, materials, equipment and tools used in performing repair, preventative maintenance, overhaul and inspections.
  • Must pass a technical test.
  • Pass a physical (medical) examination that includes a drug screen in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Proficiency with personal computer (PC), software applications to include MS Office (Word, Excel, Access).
  • Must be able to orally communicate in an effective manner with the public, co-workers, supervisors and managers to ensure efficient operations; to promote safety; and to respond to emergencies.
  • Must also be able to read and comprehend a variety of work related/required technical manuals, safety rules and regulations.
  • Must have a valid Texas Driver’s License class C, no DWI/DUI conviction within the last sixty (60) consecutive months, not more than one (1) DWI/DUI on driving record, and not more than two (2) convictions of moving violations within the last thirty-six (36) consecutive months on driving record in order to operate DART non-revenue vehicles.
  • Ability to be mobile and occasionally 10% - 20% of the work time, lift objects weighing up to seventy - (70) pounds such as tools, equipment and parts.
  • Must be able to work in crowded and tight spaces.

  • Ability to make decisions in the absence of guidance from others, and to plan and carry out work assignments in situations where the procedures have been established.

  • Must be self-motivated and able to work independently.
  • Ability to use standard devices weighing up to 50 lbs. such as hand tools, portable shop test equipment for testing and other required equipment in order to perform job functions.

Responsibilities

  • Assists Supervisor with work or task assignment and performs work relative to installation, renovation, repair, maintenance and inspections of Maintenance and Administrative facilities including but not limited to work involving electrical, mechanical, heating, cooling, plumbing, pneumatic, hydraulic, or piping.
  • Maintains accurate records of work performed; assures monthly, quarterly, semi-annual, and annual preventative maintenance schedules are maintained for all section.
  • Manages and oversees storeroom system supplies and equipment inventory and ensures adequate stock is available to perform section daily work activities.
  • Works independently to accomplish assigned tasks with little or no direct supervision.
  • Performs system test and evaluations as required to certify compliance with reliability, maintainability, and safety criteria.
  • Assists with developing safety, training, and quality assurance programs.
  • Operate heavy equipment including vehicle-mounted cranes, forklifts, generators, sump pumps, scissor lifts, ladders, etc.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
