About The Position

We are seeking a highly qualified Lead Experimental Physicist to join our team in Broomfield, CO, contributing their expertise to cutting-edge R&D efforts in the field of quantum computing. The ideal candidate will have experience leading teams of scientists and engineers in the development and experimental operation of trapped-ion-based quantum sensing, information, or computing systems. All applicants for placement in safety-sensitive positions will be required to submit to a pre-employment drug test.

Requirements

  • Ph.D. must be completed prior to start date.
  • Experience leading cross-functional technical teams to deliver complex, high-impact projects.
  • Minimum of 8 years of experience (including Ph.D.) in one or more of the following areas: quantum computing, quantum information, quantum sensing, or atomic physics.
  • Due to Contractual requirements, must be a U.S. Person defined as, U.S. citizen permanent resident or green card holder, workers granted asylum or refugee status
  • Due to national security requirements imposed by the U.S. Government, candidates for this position must not be a People's Republic of China national or Russian national unless the candidate is also a U.S. citizen.

Nice To Haves

  • 10+ years of experience in scientific research and development, engineering, or leadership roles
  • Strong organizational and leadership skills
  • Experience with laser cooling and trapping of ions or neutral atoms
  • Experience performing simulation and modeling to inform design and experiments
  • Experience with laser systems, especially frequency-stabilized diode lasers, optical cavities, and phase or intensity feedback loops
  • Experience with cryogenic systems
  • Experience with ultra-high vacuum systems
  • Experience with electro-optic devices, including photodetectors and light modulators
  • Experience designing and testing micro-optical systems
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, with published results in their field of research

Responsibilities

  • Conduct experimental work in a research lab environment, developing and collecting data on the performance of various methods and hardware prototypes related to ion-based quantum computing.
  • Mentor other scientists and engineers.
  • Review scientific results, identify areas for improvement, and implement enhanced processes and directions for further investigation.
  • Perform design trade studies and analyses.
  • Present scientific results internally, at conferences, and in publications.
  • Develop project plans, schedules, and budgets aligned with broader company strategy.
