About The Position

CARSTAR Murray’s in Des Moines is hiring a Lead Estimator to lead the estimating team at its busiest shop, a Tesla-only repair center. The role guides estimators, manages insurance carrier relationships and metrics, and sets standards for accurate, complete repair plans. The Lead Estimator writes complex Tesla estimates, supplements, and repair plans, and works with technicians and shop leadership to keep repairs moving. Murray’s Collision Group is a family-owned company serving the Puget Sound since 1984, operating CARSTAR and Fix Auto collision centers, including Tesla-certified repair centers. The position offers a stated salary range of $70,000–$110,000 per year based on experience, with bonus potential. Benefits begin after 90 days. The role is based at the Des Moines shop, about 20 minutes south of Seattle. Schedules include a 4x10 option or Monday through Thursday, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., and Friday, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.; weekends are not required.

Requirements

• At least 3 years of collision estimating experience.
• Leadership or mentoring experience.
• Strong knowledge of DRP programs and insurance carrier metrics.
• Strong communication and negotiation skills.
• Organized and able to manage multiple priorities in a busy shop.
• Valid driver’s license and insurable driving record.

Nice To Haves

• CCC ONE experience.
• Tesla or EV damage analysis experience.
• I-CAR training or industry certifications.

Responsibilities

• Lead, mentor, and support the team of estimators.
• Review estimates and supplements for accuracy and completeness.
• Write complex Tesla estimates, supplements, and repair plans in CCC ONE.
• Take part in DFR with technicians to capture all needed repairs.
• Represent the shop in meetings with insurance carriers.
• Own carrier metrics and drive continuous improvement.
• Ensure repair plans follow Tesla OEM procedures, DRP guidelines, and carrier requirements.
• Participate in daily production meetings and partner with shop leadership to keep work moving.
