About The Position

Performs difficult semiskilled work in the regular operation of medium automotive and construction equipment. Work is performed under general supervision. Supervision may be exercised over Equipment Operator I and small maintenance crews. This role involves operating various types of equipment for construction, maintenance, and repair projects, including mowing, street maintenance, loading/unloading, sweeping, patching, and assisting with drainage and leaf collection. The position also includes performing minor equipment maintenance and repairs, and assisting with snow removal and ice control. The employee may be required to work outside normal working hours in an emergency or stand-by status.

Requirements

Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from high school.
Considerable experience in operation and maintenance of medium motorized equipment.
Possession of an appropriate driver's license valid in the State of North Carolina.
CDL required.

Responsibilities

Operates medium equipment in construction, maintenance and repair projects.
Operates large tractor mower cutting vacant and overgrown lots, drainage ditch banks and road shoulders.
Supervises the maintenance and repair of streets; assigns work to and trains crew members.
Oversees eminent threat and nuisance abatement crews.
Drives dump truck hauling rocks, dirt, wood and bricks.
Operates front-end loader loading and unloading trucks.
Operates street sweeper and litter vacuum.
Operates asphalt patching equipment to repair and patch streets.
Assists drainage maintenance crews; lays pipe in ditches and driveways.
Helps with leaf collection; operates leaf machine.
Performs minor maintenance work on equipment; inspects equipment for safety prior to operating.
Performs construction maintenance and repair tasks when not operating equipment.
Assists with snow removal and ice control.
May be required to work outside normal working hours in an emergency or stand-by status.
Performs related tasks as required.
