WSPWhitehorse, YT
$111,000 - $162,800

About The Position

Build the Future With Us – We have an exciting opportunity for you to join our vibrant and dedicated team in Terrace, British Columbia and Whitehorse, Yukon, as a Senior or Lead Environmental Engineer / Geoscientist. In this role, you will guide complex environmental and contaminated sites initiatives across northern and western Canada. Your work will help build resilient communities and protect vital ecosystems through responsible development and advanced environmental practice. You should have at least five or more years of progressive, technical experience primarily in contaminated sites investigation and remediation (e.g., stage 2 preliminary site investigations, detailed site investigations, remedial option analyses, and physical remediations), combined with some project coordination and management experience.  We can help strengthen your technical and regulatory skills, as you work on multi-disciplinary projects that you will find both challenging and rewarding. You should enjoy being part of and contributing to a close-knit team and appreciate the benefits that a large organization can bring, including career progression, access to vast technical expertise, having a dedicated mentor, being able to participate in employee resource groups, and more.

Requirements

  • Significant hands‑on experience leading contaminated‑sites assessments (Phase I/II/III ESA, delineation, remediation support) with the autonomy to guide project‑level decisions.
  • Professional registration (P.Eng. or P.Geo.) or eligibility for registration in BC and/or Yukon.
  • A bachelor’s degree or higher in Environmental, Geological, or Civil Engineering (or related discipline with environmental focus), Environmental Science, Geoscience, or related discipline
  • Significant experience (5-10+ years) working in northern, remote, Indigenous, or industrial settings with complex multi‑media contamination issues.
  • Strong capability in project management including financial and scope oversight, client-facing interactions, and excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Expertise in contaminated‑sites characterization, conceptual site model development, remediation technologies, and environmental regulatory requirements in BC, YT, and western/northern Canada.
  • Experience conducting and overseeing field programs in remote or northern regions.
  • A collaborative approach, commitment to safety, and strong problem‑solving instincts tailored to complex environmental conditions and multidisciplinary teams.

Nice To Haves

  • CSAP (Contaminated Sites Approved Professional) designation preferred but not required — strong contaminated sites expertise and eligibility for future CSAP advancement are considered assets.

Responsibilities

  • Lead multidisciplinary environmental and contaminated site assessments supporting mining, infrastructure, community development, and northern programs including investigation planning, field oversight, data interpretation, and reporting, with senior experts supporting high‑complexity decisions.
  • Apply advanced contaminated‑sites expertise to build conceptual site models, guide delineation, evaluate remedial options, and support risk‑assessment processes at a Lead level.
  • Direct and review field programs—drilling, sampling, monitoring, and geohazard assessments—in northern and remote settings.
  • Produce clear, defensible technical reports that support regulatory filings and major client decisions.
  • Collaborate with engineering, ecology, mining and Indigenous engagement teams to deliver integrated solutions.
  • Mentor junior and intermediate staff in environmental methods, contaminated‑sites practice, QA/QC, and regulatory requirements.
