About The Position

Eaton’s ES AMER ESS division is currently seeking a Lead Engineering Technician. This role is based out of Raleigh, NC. Lead Engineering Technician is an exciting hands-on role providing technical support to engineering teams developing and validating next-generation MV-SST (Medium Voltage Solid State Transformer) and 3-phase UPS (Uninterruptible Power Supply) products used in commercial data centers, utility, renewable energy, and critical power applications. In this role, you will support product development through prototype builds, laboratory testing, troubleshooting, data collection, and certification activities while maintaining a strong focus on safety in a high-power electrical lab environment.

Requirements

  • Associates degree in Electrical/Electronics related degree from an accredited institution.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in an engineering laboratory, validation, test, manufacturing, or technical support role.
  • Experience working with electrical systems and electronic test equipment.
  • Willing and able to work safely in a high-power laboratory environment involving voltages up to 35kV AC and high-energy DC systems.
  • Ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical documentation.
  • Must reside within a 50 mile radius of Raleigh, NC.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience supporting validation and testing of power electronics, UPS systems, battery energy storage systems, converters, inverters, transformers, or medium-voltage equipment.
  • Experience working in high-voltage or medium-voltage laboratory environments where safety awareness is critical.
  • Understanding of power electronics fundamentals, including AC/DC conversion, DC/DC conversion, and inverter systems.
  • Experience with setup and execution of UL, IEC, IEEE, or other product certification testing.
  • Experience using oscilloscopes, power analyzers, data acquisition systems, electronic loads, and programmable power supplies.
  • Understanding of electronic circuit theory and troubleshooting techniques.
  • Experience with component characterization and parametric evaluation.
  • Electromechanical prototype fabrication and assembly experience.
  • Experience with PCBA assembly, soldering, rework, and modification techniques.
  • Familiarity with battery systems, Battery Management Systems (BMS), and energy storage technologies.
  • Knowledge of lockout/tagout (LOTO), arc-flash boundaries, PPE requirements, and energized electrical work practices.
  • Previous coursework in power electronics, electrical power systems, or controls.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple projects and testing activities simultaneously.

  • Organize test data and prepare test reports
  • Fabricate, modify and repair electronic assemblies and related hardware
