About The Position

At Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts, we have an exciting opportunity for a Lead Engineer. The Lead Engineer is responsible for designing, developing, and leading the delivery of enterprise CRM solutions using the Pega platform at BCBSMA. This role drives scalable, secure, and high-performing systems that support member and provider engagement while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and organizational standards. This role is eligible for our Flex Persona. For candidates local to our Boston, MA and Hingham MA offices.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field
  • 8+ years of software engineering experience
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience with Pega CRM
  • Proven experience in technical leadership or lead engineering roles
  • Strong experience with API development, integrations, and distributed systems
  • Experience working in Agile/Scrum environments
  • Strong expertise in Pega platform architecture, workflows, and decisioning
  • Ability to design scalable, high-performance, and secure systems
  • Knowledge of healthcare regulations and compliance requirements
  • Proficiency in problem-solving, troubleshooting, and performance optimization
  • Strong leadership, communication, and stakeholder management skills
  • Ability to work across cross-functional teams and manage competing priorities
  • Familiarity with DevOps, CI/CD, and modern engineering practices
  • High school degree or equivalent required

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in health insurance or healthcare domain
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS/Azure/GCP)

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of Pega CRM solutions, including workflows and case management
  • Define and maintain system architecture aligned with enterprise standards
  • Provide technical leadership through code reviews, mentoring, and best practices
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to translate business requirements into technical solutions
  • Oversee Agile delivery, including sprint planning, execution, and releases
  • Ensure system performance, scalability, and reliability
  • Support production systems, including incident management and root cause analysis
  • Develop and manage API integrations with internal and external systems
  • Ensure adherence to security, compliance, and regulatory requirements (HIPAA, CMS, HITRUST)
  • Maintain proper documentation, design artifacts, and technical standards
