Lead Engineer, Test Development - Power

CelesticaSan Jose, CA
$104,066 - $154,778

About The Position

The Lead Engineer - Test Development designs, develops and implements automatic test equipment and test programs for product testing and design verification which ensure robust and high quality assembled products in manufacturing. As a Test Engineer on our growing team, you will be the technical lead for de-risking high-cost product development phases (EVT and DVT). This is a high-impact, internal-facing role where you will take full ownership of measurement quality for cutting-edge power technologies. You will bridge the gap between design and manufacturing by developing robust test plans and automated logging systems, freeing design engineers to focus on next-generation architecture.

Requirements

  • Experience in power validation for semiconductor or high-tech system
  • Familiarity with structural and functional testing for high-density power modules.
  • A "detective" mindset: An obsession with data organization and the ability to find "needles in haystacks" during urgent debug cycles.
  • experience with Python for test automation and comfort working within a Linux environment.
  • Proficiency with Oscilloscopes, LabView, and basic soldering for hardware troubleshooting.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the testing and validation of power electronics through EVT/DVT phases, owning the full test plan generation and validation strategy.
  • Master the use of oscilloscopes and precision equipment to measure subtle signals and nanovolt-level noise in high-power environments (up to several kilowatts).
  • Design and develop integrated test solutions (hardware and software) including high-level architecture, system integration, qualification, and installation.
  • Build and maintain automated test scripts using Python and Linux to remotely configure test equipment, microcontrollers, and CPUs.
  • Establish a rigorous culture of data organization and indexing for historical test results to enable rapid debugging.
  • Manage measurement integrity by identifying if issues stem from design flaws, parasitic interference, grounding loops, or soldering quality.
  • Develop technical proposals, cost BOMs, and hour estimates based on customer requirements and design specifications.
  • Drive alignment in internal meetings with Program Managers (EPMs) and act as the primary technical contact for power vendors.
  • Provide technical leadership and program management for smaller projects, including coordinating and reviewing the work of other engineers.
  • Review and interpret customer documentation and conduct research/experiments with minimal direction.
  • Execute all validation and qualification requirements using statistical and common industry methods.
  • Stabilize and optimize test solutions for manufacturing, focusing on cycle time, yield, and collaboration with process teams.
  • Provide feedback to product design teams regarding testability (DFT), coverage, diagnosability, reparability, and firmware/diagnostics.
  • Keep up to date with relevant industry knowledge, trends, and regulations.
