Lead Engineer - Simulation Assisted Engineering (SAE) will serve as a hands-on individual contributor leading technical development involving simulator connectivity, hardware/software integration, network troubleshooting, OPC server configuration, virtual machine deployment, and simulator discrepancy resolution. This position supports the development, validation, testing, and long term reliability of the full scope simulator used for engineering analysis, operator training support, integrated plant design, and plant system verification activities. This role will work directly with the physical simulator lab environment including simulator cabinets, networked workstations, I/O interfaces, plant process models, virtual machines, instructor station, HMI systems, and communication interfaces between simulation platforms and plant control system representation.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Systems, Software, Computer Science or Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, or equivalent 4-year technical degree.
  • Minimum 5 years of experience supporting nuclear simulation, plant process modeling, I&C systems, control systems, simulator hardware/software integration, or related plant engineering systems.
  • Relocation to Wilmington, NC is required.
  • This role requires access to U.S. export-controlled information. If applicable, final offers will be contingent on ability to obtain authorization for access to U.S. export-controlled information from the U.S. Government.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with full-scope nuclear plant simulators, real-time simulation platforms, instructor stations, HMI systems, and control room simulation environments.
  • Strong troubleshooting mindset with the ability to isolate issues across model logic, control logic, network communication, hardware configuration, and software interfaces.
  • Ability to translate plant system behavior into simulator requirements, test cases, and acceptance criteria.
  • Ability to work onsite with simulator hardware, engineering workstations, test equipment, vendors, and cross-functional engineering teams.
  • Master of Science in Engineering, Electrical, Mechanical, Nuclear, Systems, Software, Computer Science or Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics.
  • Knowledge of: ANSI/ANS-3.5-2009 Nuclear Power Plant simulators for use in operator training and examination
  • Knowledge of: REG GUIDE 1.149 Nuclear Power Plant Simulation Facilities for use in operator training, License examination and applicant experience requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Provide onsite technical leadership for the full-scope simulator environment including hardware, software, networking, and system integration activities.
  • Troubleshoot simulator hardware and connectivity issues involving servers, workstations, network switches, I/O interfaces, instruction stations, HMI displays, control system emulation, and simulator cabinets.
  • Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot OPC servers and related communication interfaces used to exchange data between plant models, control systems, HMI systems, and simulator support tools.
  • Support simulator network architecture including IP configuration, routing, latency issues, dropped communication, workstations connectivity and interface stability.
  • Support installation, configuration, and maintenance of simulator virtual machines, engineering workstations, test environments, and supporting infrastructure
  • Verify simulator performance against applicable design requirements, plant system behavior, controlled software releases, version tracking, and discrepancy reporting processes.
  • Support Simulator Factory Acceptance Testing, regression testing, model updates, control system updates, and hardware refresh activities.
  • Maintain alignment with applicable simulator standards, including ANSI/ANS-3.5-2009 expectations for nuclear power plant simulators.
