About The Position

This position is in Services for Gas Power Controls for New Product Introduction (NPI) and product sustaining engineering. The successful candidate will participate in engineering and designing mechanical and packaged systems for interface to existing nuclear and fossil steam, hydro, and gas turbine equipment as part of overall controls conversions, modifications, and upgrades. The focus for this position is on developing and sustaining standardized products and providing appropriate technical support to global project engineers using those products. As a lead engineer, performing demanding technical work with minimal oversight from more experienced engineers while also providing mentoring and technical direction for less experienced engineers within your own team and across the business is a key part of the role. The lead controls product standards and methods engineer for Services Projects has overall responsibility to develop and maintain structured product solutions for use by global functional engineers responsible to deliver control systems orders for our customers. This includes packaging of digital electronic control system panels and mechanical control system components used on nuclear and fossil steam turbines, gas turbines, and power plant systems. The overall goal of this role is to establish and maintain product standards for aftermarket control systems and ensure the global engineering team is equipped to use these products effectively to execute control system conversion, modification, and upgrade projects around the globe.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from an accredited university
  • Minimum of 5 years of design experience in mechanical systems engineering
  • Proven strong interpersonal and leadership skills
  • Minimum 2 years of controls systems experience

Nice To Haves

  • Strong experience in steam, gas, or hydro turbine in a plant control systems operation
  • Engineering experience in nuclear and fossil steam turbine and/or gas turbine auxiliary equipment and applications
  • Expert in applying mechanical engineering principles to analyze, design and troubleshoot mechanical and packaged systems associated with control system retrofits for steam and gas turbines
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Results-oriented and able to complete tasks on schedule
  • Experienced in proactively identifying and resolving technical issues
  • Experience in review of contracting documentation and customer specifications, including creating equipment specifications and detailed design documentation for the development of appropriate physical product solutions

  • Familiarity with use of Finite Element Analysis using ANSYS and/or SDRC I-Deas
  • Field engineering experience with turbine mechanical retrofits a strong plus
  • Experience with proposal generation and market level pricing for turbine retrofit opportunities
  • Experience developing steam, gas, or hydro turbine control system software
  • Expertise in machining practices, GD&T , design for manufacturability and lean manufacturing
  • Expert with Autodesk Inventor, Unigraphics, SolidWorks or similar solid modeling design software
  • Knowledge of hydraulic systems design
  • Nuclear power generation controls or plant operational experience
  • Strong experience in power generation projects, working with customers, project management, and/or EPCs
  • Proven oral and written communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrated ability to meet goals and objectives
  • Master’s degree in a technical discipline

  • Apply experience to provide technical direction to less experienced engineers and mentor new engineers
  • Perform as reviewing engineer to provide technical guidance and approval of less experienced engineers’ work
  • Apply experience to innovate effective product solutions to support business needs
  • Provide effective customer support related to products
  • Provide experienced technical sales support for generation of customer proposals
  • Develop product test specification procedures, product technical manuals, and training courses targeted towards other technical personnel
  • Develop instructions for product installation and commissioning for field services
  • Ensure compliance with internal and industry technical regulations, standards, and other regulatory requirements
  • Direct experience interacting with customers and suppliers required
  • Drive overall architecture, top level design, verification, validation, and commissioning requirement to be used by global functional engineers
  • Ensure adequate system safety, function, performance, interface, reliability, and maintainability requirements are met
  • Support and influence comprehensive test plans for system verification and validation
  • Drive consistent solutions across all controls scope
  • Collaborate with and maintain close, responsive, and productive working relationships with internal and external customers
