About The Position

National Grid is hiring a Lead Engineer (Electrical Planning and Design), Electrical Engineering for Massachusetts. This is a Hybrid Role - Must live within a commutable distance to Northboro, MA. Electric Transmission Engineering designs projects that improve the reliability of the high-voltage electric system for our customers. Our team has a process driven and self-directed culture; solving diverse technical challenges for large, complex, multi-year projects. We investigate new, innovative solutions for a wide variety of projects. Requirements

• A Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mechanical or Electrical Engineering from an ABET accredited engineering school.
• 7 or more years professional experience in an engineering field, preferably transmission engineering.
• Experience with transmission design software including: PLS CADD, PLS POLE, and MFAD
• Strong working knowledge of industry standards, safety standards, and current design codes, especially the National Electrical Safety Code (NESC).
• Proficient Microsoft Office computer skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of the following is required: Structural analysis, Structural steel and wood pole design, Electrical clearance analysis, Soil Mechanics, Foundation design.

Nice To Haves

• Registered Professional Engineering License and/or advanced technical or business degree
• Knowledge of National Grid's business operations
• Knowledge of relevant industry practice, standards and legislation including technical advancements.

Responsibilities

• Perform transmission line engineering and design work on various projects including new transmission lines, refurbishments, and reconductoring projects.
• Specify, order, and coordinate material delivery. Review vendor calculations and fabrication drawings.
• Support Environmental and other permitting efforts.
• Prepare project specifications, and develop procedures and technical documents.
• Collaborate with diverse project teams to deliver projects on time, within scope, and on budget.
• Proactively build and maintain relationships with internal and external stakeholders in order to obtain and share information that will benefit National Grid and our customers.
• Provide technical guidance, support, and coaching to less experienced engineers.
• Investigate the adoption of new and innovative technologies.
