About The Position

Eversource has two full-time opportunities for a Lead Engineer to join the Distribution Engineering Team. This team is responsible for the strategic development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment to ensure reliable customer service. The team focuses on technical solutions and modernization initiatives to improve operations and integrate renewable energy resources, as well as preventing, evaluating, and resolving system failures. The Lead Engineer will oversee the development, expansion, planning, design, maintenance, and operation of the system and its equipment to meet organizational goals. This role involves coordinating the evaluation and resolution of system failures to support operations during unplanned maintenance. The position ensures that Eversource distribution systems are designed to high-quality standards, providing safe, reliable, competitively priced, and environmentally sound electric service. The Lead Engineer shares accountability with peers for the strategy, development, and design of the organization’s Life Cycle Plan, a long-term plan for the transmission/distribution system. This role includes supervising, assigning, prioritizing, and directing the work of other Engineers and staff. The positions are based in Dorchester, MA.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Engineering is required.
  • Minimum of eight (8) to ten (10) years in the technical, operational, or engineering aspects of the electrical utility industry.
  • Ability to independently develop, present, and execute new projects through collaborations with other departments.
  • Must be available to work emergency restoration assignment as required.
  • Must be available to travel between MA/CT/NH as necessary.
  • Depending on the specific nature of the engineering role, position may require occasional to significant travel by car.
  • A valid driver’s license is required.
  • Applicants requiring visa sponsorship to start employment with Eversource will not be considered.
  • Must be able to work up to five days in the office if needed (for example: emergencies, training, or other business needs) or should the policy change.

Nice To Haves

  • Knowledge of utility power systems is preferred.
  • Familiarity with power-related software is preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises, coaches, and develops engineers; approves time and reviews work for quality.
  • Assigns, prioritizes, and directs work performed by at least 2 FTE Engineers or 1 FTE Engineer and 1 FTE Designer.
  • Oversees all types of distribution systems within the assigned local territory, including Overhead Radial, Underground Radial, and Underground Network systems.
  • Responsible for the cost and performance of certain system assets, including reliability analysis, trending of system events, and monitoring of equipment condition.
  • Responsible for the development, justification, and approval of Life Cycle Plan activities over a multi-year horizon and for ongoing projects.
  • Ensures the accurate and timely design and specification of additions, modifications, and replacements to transmission and distribution systems, and the preparation of system electrical permits and related customer notifications.
  • Develops preliminary engineering designs and necessary details.
  • Collaborates with other Engineers within Engineering to ensure consistency and teamwork.
  • Provides technical support and direction to operating areas regarding system priorities, engineering guidelines, and operating decisions during normal and emergency situations.
  • Accountable for root-cause analysis, development, and implementation of corrective actions.
  • Evaluates and selects technology and equipment for the system.
  • Develops standards and procedures for design, operation, and maintenance.
  • Assumes the role of the Manager as required.
  • Assists with storm duty and other major events.
  • Responds to emergency situations to meet customers’ needs, which may include assisting during emergencies outside of normal responsibilities, work hours, and location as part of an Emergency Restoration assignment.
