About The Position

The Lead Emergency Technician (Adult ED) at Lutheran General Hospital is a full-time position working a 3p-3a shift. This role is responsible for overseeing day-to-day refurbishing initiatives in the ED, providing input on equipment needs, evaluating supply usage, and representing the ED as part of the Leadership Team. The Lead ED Tech also participates in peer interviewing, provides orientation and educational support for ED technicians, and coordinates orientation and education in collaboration with nurse managers and directors. This role involves identifying ongoing educational needs, coordinating and maintaining point of care testing, developing skills days, and functioning as an ED technician.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • 2-4 years experience in emergency department or pre-hospital experience.
  • Proficient with PC skills and knowledge of equipment within an emergency department.
  • Good communication and customer relation skills.
  • Good organization and math skills.
  • Certified CNA, EMT-B, LPN or medical assistant.
  • Self directed, minimal supervision required.
  • Ability to prioritize, plan and execute.
  • Ability to give clear directions.
  • Possess strong critical thinking, analytical and organizational skills.
  • Process strong detail and result oriented skill.
  • Must adhere to the behaviors of excellence and be a team player.
  • Ability to lift up to 35 pounds without assistance. For patient lifts of over 35 pounds, or when patient is unable to assist with the lift, patient handling equipment is expected to be used, with at least one other associate, when available.

Responsibilities

  • Make regular rounds in the department, using daily rounding tool and ensuring proper documentation in care connection.
  • Provide input to ED leadership regarding equipment needs, future needs anticipation, and equipment depreciation.
  • Make rounds to identify areas requiring cleaning.
  • Evaluate supply usage and suggest adjustments to par levels quarterly for optimal department function and fiscal responsibility.
  • Participate in department leadership meetings as needed.
  • Co-chair monthly ED tech staff meeting with ED Manager/ACM/or Director.
  • Review patient satisfaction results reflecting ED tech contribution and develop action plans for unmet goals.
  • Ensure organizational safety initiatives are followed by ED technicians.
  • Coordinate orientation and education of ED technicians in collaboration with department educators.
  • Identify ongoing educational needs among ED technicians and collaborate with department educators/managers.
  • Coordinate, educate, and maintain all point of care testing utilized in the emergency department.
  • Develop and hold bi-annual skills day for ED technicians.
  • Functions as/works as an ED technician.
