About The Position

You will be part of the Locomotive Controls Engineering team, working alongside Systems Engineering, Product Management, Verification & Validation, Hardware Engineering, Test Engineering, Field Services, and customer-facing teams. Together, you will develop, enhance, and support embedded software solutions that power locomotive control systems and enable safe, reliable, and secure operation across Wabtec's product portfolio. As a Lead Embedded Software Engineer, you will play a key role in the design, development, integration, and support of embedded software for locomotive control systems. You will drive software enhancements, customer requisitions, and new product introduction (NPI) initiatives while ensuring compliance with cybersecurity, quality, and performance requirements. Your contributions will directly impact product reliability, operational efficiency, and customer satisfaction.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related field.
  • Minimum 3 years of experience developing embedded real-time software using C/C++ on RTOS platforms such as Linux or QNX.
  • Experience with software testing, debugging, integration, root cause analysis, and hardware-integrated test environments.
  • Familiarity with cybersecurity practices, secure coding standards, vulnerability remediation, and software quality tools.
  • Experience with CI/CD, DevOps methodologies, configuration management, and source control tools such as GitLab, Jenkins, and Perforce.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, test, debug, and release embedded software for locomotive control systems.
  • Implement cybersecurity features and support Cyber Authorization to Operate (CATO) compliance activities.
  • Investigate software defects, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective actions.
  • Conduct software design reviews and code reviews to ensure quality and maintainability.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define requirements, develop solutions, and support program execution.
  • Analyze technical data, communicate findings, and provide status updates on key risks and issues.
  • Support verification, validation, testing, and software deployment activities in laboratory, factory, and customer environments.
  • Work directly with locomotives to support feature development, demonstrations, troubleshooting, and field investigations.
  • Participate in technical reviews, design reviews, and program milestone discussions.
