About The Position

Assists in planning, scheduling, and overseeing renovations, maintenance, preventative maintenance, and repair work for building systems and utilities. Reports to the Director Facility Engineering and provides technical direction and assistance to electrical technicians and other assigned staff. This role involves ensuring compliance with electrical and safety codes, maintaining electrical system documentation, and managing maintenance operations. The position also includes training and evaluating personnel, managing tools and equipment, estimating material needs, purchasing supplies, and contributing to the operating budget and capital equipment requests. Effective communication with hospital staff and active participation in quality improvement initiatives are essential. The role requires adherence to standard precautions and mandatory educational programs, with a focus on customer/patient satisfaction.

Requirements

  • High school graduate.
  • B.S. degree in engineering or equivalent.
  • Five years minimum experience and background in electrical plumbing and HVAC systems required.
  • Three to five years supervisory experience.
  • Able to work with high voltage switchgear.
  • Working knowledge of electronic controls.
  • Familiarity with all building codes.
  • Ability to read blueprints, technical manuals and reports.
  • Knowledge of construction and procedures.
  • Ability to interact with a variety of people including employees, physicians, patients, outside agencies, contractors, etc.
  • Must hold a valid driver's license and have clean driving record.
  • Must be trustworthy in safeguarding confidential information.

Responsibilities

  • Schedules and supervises preventive maintenance and repair work to electrical systems.
  • Prepares and submits maintenance reports and costs.
  • Assures compliance with Hospital electrical and safety codes, as well as State and Federal codes.
  • Maintains up-to-date electrical prints of distribution systems, generators, and fire alarm systems, including PMs and code requirements.
  • Ensures all safety measures are in effect during maintenance operations.
  • Assists in disaster and fire prevention programs.
  • Trains and evaluates the performance of assigned maintenance personnel.
  • Ensures Hospital tools and equipment are used properly and maintains effective controls.
  • Estimates quantities of materials and supplies needed for maintenance operations.
  • Purchases daily and routine supplies according to Hospital and departmental policy.
  • Estimates, projects, and accounts for the operating budget of the plant engineering division.
  • Requests capital equipment needs as conditions dictate.
  • Maintains open communication with other Hospital and departmental staff.
  • Functions as a working Lead man completing assigned tasks as necessary.
  • Promotes and fosters the mission and philosophy of the Hospital.
  • Actively supports and participates in the Hospital's Continuous Quality Improvement endeavors.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.
  • Follows standard precaution guidelines in all work situations.
  • Attends all annual mandatory educational programs as required by position.
  • Understands and demonstrates the importance of satisfying the needs of the customer/patient.
