This position offers the opportunity to work as a lead engineer within a project team, focusing on the design, modification, and analysis of electrical systems for a variety of projects, from existing plant retrofits to new generation installations. Responsibilities include power distribution designs, preparing specifications for major electrical power equipment and related installation services, and assisting project managers to ensure projects are completed satisfactorily, on time, and within budget. The role involves coordinating system design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements, as well as preparing and reviewing functional design drawings (single line, relay and metering, cable block, schematic diagrams) and documentation for other drawing production and 3-D modeling. Detailed calculations for auxiliary power systems, voltage drop, protective relay settings, and arc flash are also part of the role. The engineer will interface with vendors for bills of material and equipment purchase specifications, prepare reports and studies, and perform independent reviews of work performed by others. Mentoring less experienced engineers and developing career through peer-learning via S&L’s systems of process and associated “Communities of Practice” are also key aspects. Travel to client and vendor offices for design reviews and to plant site locations for construction coordination and field verification is required. This position is based on a hybrid work schedule in the Clayton, Missouri office, requiring 3 days per week in the office.
