Lead EHV Transmission Line Engineer 2 - Grid
About The Position
This role involves leading the design of high-voltage alternating current (HVAC) transmission lines, specifically in the 69kV to 765kV range. The engineer will serve as a subject matter specialist for 500kV and 765kV transmission lines, mentoring junior team members, and coordinating design activities to ensure compliance with specifications, codes, and client requirements. Responsibilities include preparing technical reports and studies, performing independent reviews of calculations and drawings, and adhering to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes. The position operates on a hybrid work schedule, requiring three days per week in the office.
Requirements
- BS degree from an ABET-accredited engineering program.
- 12 years of transmission design experience.
- 3 or more years of experience in 500kV and/or 765kV transmission line design.
- Familiarity with the electrical considerations for 765kV transmission lines.
- Proficiency with PLS-CADD software.
- Experience must include preparation of scopes of work, development of conceptual designs, determination of design basis, the selection of equipment and materials, and the preparation and assembling of calculations and specifications.
- Experience working directly with clients on transmission lines from 69kV through 765kV.
- Knowledge of engineering standards including NESC, IEC, ASCE, ACI, IEEE and ANSI.
- Experience reviewing design drawings created by others.

- Experience directing automation and process-improvement work, such as automating calculations, summarizing technical documents, or generating design documentation.
- Experience guiding when and how AI or agentic AI tools are used while ensuring results are checked.
- Experience overseeing engineers who program or script (e.g., Python, MATLAB, advanced Excel) to automate engineering tasks, with review of automated outputs.
- Additional learning, such as a minor, certificate, or other experience in Computer Science, Artificial Intelligence, Software Engineering, or related fields that enables effective oversight of automation and agentic AI-enabled engineering workflows.
Responsibilities

- Coordinate design activities to ensure installation and operations will comply with specifications, codes, and client requirements.
- Prepare reports and studies that present technical information in a clear and concise manner and meet client requirements and S&L formats.
- Perform independent reviews of work performed by others including calculations, drawing preparation, and transmission line models based in PLS-CADD.
- Adhere to Sargent & Lundy's System of Processes.
