About The Position

The Emergency & Critical Care Lead Technician works collaboratively with the Emergency & Critical Care supervisors, veterinarians, other staff veterinarians and the entire Angell support staff to provide Angell clientele with excellent clinical and customer service. These services include providing technical support in the examination room, outpatient and in-patient procedures, assisting with case management of patient that are admitted to the hospital, running anesthesia, communications with clients and sometimes referring veterinarians as needed. They assist the veterinarian in triage, inpatient care, radiology, surgery and in other areas of the hospital as needed. The Lead technician must be able to interact with all staff members and clients in a positive and dynamic manner and provide technical advice following hospital policies and procedures. It requires knowledge specific to emergency & critical care, clinical tests, procedures, protocols, medical terminology, animal handling, anesthesia, and math skills. The Lead technician should be able to communicate, orally and in writing, veterinary specific clinical information regarding services to our clients and other hospital staff.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4 years experience within an Emergency and Critical Care setting.
  • Current Certified Veterinary Technician (CVT) certification within the state of Massachusetts.

Responsibilities

  • Utilize technical and clinical expertise in order to effectively assess, obtain pertinent patient history and relay to overseeing doctor in a timely manner.
  • Demonstrate and model strong technical skills.
  • Provide support for the Emergency & Critical Care doctors, interns, team members including assisting with maintaining the schedule templates and coordinating with the Supervisor or Manager to ensure appropriate coverage for the service.
  • Assist in the training of new and current employees; accurately recording, discussing and troubleshooting the trainee’s progress with the Supervisor and Manager of the department.
  • Work closely with the Supervisor to continuously update and improve training protocols.
