About The Position

The Lead Driver is responsible for driving and evaluating new and prototype motor vehicles on pre-defined routes on primary and secondary roads in various weather conditions. In addition, drivers might be required to transport employees of Lucid throughout the Bay Area during the test.

Requirements

  • Thorough knowledge of local motor vehicle and traffic laws.
  • Able to drive vehicles with automatic and manual transmissions.
  • Able to sit and drive for up to 10 hours per shift (when needed) with regular breaks.
  • Able to operate test vehicles as equipped for typical drivers.
  • Able to work independently and or in small groups and for periods without direct supervision.
  • Able to write legibly all comments needed on documents.
  • Must have Class C Driver’s License
  • Pass a criminal background check and drug screen.
  • Must have clean driving record.
  • Work assigned schedule which may include multiple shifts, weekends and holidays; overtime when required.
  • Minimum 3 years professional driving experience.
  • Have strong verbal and written communication skills; computer skills (SAP, MS Office, MRS systems).
  • Team oriented, flexible and focused on maintaining a high level of customer service.

  • Willingness to work in various working conditions including being in an active service center or unpredictable weather condition
  • Physical exertion may be required to perform occupational tasks (sitting up to two or more hours at a time, standing for up to eight or more hours a day, walking, bending, kneeling, laying, twisting, carrying, reaching, stretching, pushing, pulling, and lifting up to 50 lbs.)
  • Frequent use of hands for purposes of grasping and using tools correctly, entering data, writing communications, or calling customers or internal partners
  • Ability to see, read, and interpret documents such as governmental regulations, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions/schematics

Responsibilities

  • Maintain security and safety of assigned test vehicles.
  • Lock all vehicles when not occupied.
  • Complete ALL vehicle pre-inspections prior to leaving facility.
  • Follow predetermined assigned routes.
  • Complete assigned test procedures, and duty cycles and furnish complete reports, including complete comments of findings.
  • Work cooperatively with engineering staff and its customers on vehicle and system issues when requested.
  • Able to follow ALL rules, policies and procedures pertaining to test vehicles. (No eating, drinking (except for bottled water) or smoking in vehicles.
  • Follow ALL rules and procedures pertaining to high security vehicles.
  • No use of cell phones or texting while driving a vehicle.
  • Arrive to work on time.
  • Be able to write clear and concise comments about what you experience and explain your perception of vehicle performance, function and comfort.
  • Maintain a positive attitude with the team members and customers

  • Report road incidents to the Lead Drive/Project Coordinator
  • Keep an activities log and log hours
  • Able to operate test vehicles as equipped for typical drivers.
  • Ability to work a flexible schedule to support customers on weekends and/or holidays
  • Complete assigned test procedures, and duty cycles and furnish complete reports, including complete comments of findings.
  • Assign routes and vehicles to drivers at the start of each shift.
  • Monitor vehicle status and updates to ensure only functional vehicles are assigned, keeping track of any that are out of service.
  • Provide training to drivers on the specific testing programs they are assigned to, ensuring they understand protocols and procedures.
  • Offer refresher training when necessary to ensure compliance with updates or changes in the testing process.
  • Complete the daily lead report, including driver attendance (callouts, tardiness) and task completion updates
  • Ensure reports are accurate and submitted in a timely manner.
  • Oversee drivers’ completion of Power Apps entries, ensuring all relevant data is entered correctly.
  • Monitor and verify the accuracy of mileage logs for each test vehicle.
  • Assist new drivers with any IT-related issues, including setting up and troubleshooting devices or software used in the testing program.
  • Ensure all drivers are equipped with the necessary tools to perform their tasks efficiently.
  • Serve as the first point of contact for drivers who encounter issues during their shift, offering quick and practical solutions.
  • Escalate unresolved or critical problems to higher management when necessary.
  • Take on tasks or special projects as needed to support the Project Coordinator, such as coordinating vehicle maintenance or overseeing compliance checks, Data Entry.
  • Act as a liaison between drivers and project management to ensure smooth operations.
  • Perform test drives when needed, following the same protocols and responsibilities as regular test drivers, while balancing lead duties.
