About The Position

A Lead Driver CDL (B) is responsible for overseeing a group of drivers to ensure complete route coverage, prompt and courteous customer service, and safely operates his or her truck to provide complete waste removal services for customers. The Lead Driver CDL (B) is responsible for ensuring their vehicle complies with the Company’s safety standards before operation, adheres to all Company, state, and federal regulations while operating the vehicle, and completes vehicle condition reports (“VCRs”) daily to ensure timely repair of any vehicle defects. This role also assists the Route Supervisor or Operations Manager in training new drivers on proper safety and driving techniques.

Requirements

  • Three years of prior experience driving commercial trucks preferred.
  • One year in a lead role.
  • Class A Commercial Driver’s license.
  • Good customer service skills to meet and exceed customer expectations; acts in a professional, courteous, and cooperative manner toward customers and co-workers; works with honesty and trustworthiness.
  • Good time management skills to ensure assigned responsibilities are completed efficiently and safely.
  • Good follow-through ability; adheres to work schedule and follows through on challenges.
  • Ability to adhere to Company policies and rules; promotes Company safety standards; does not take inappropriate risks.
  • Maintains pride in work; strives to achieve all goals.
  • Class B or higher Commercial Driver’s license with air brakes endorsement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee a group of drivers daily to ensure routes are serviced promptly; report downtime or other concerns to management; assist in planning and executing re-routes for efficiency; assist in training new drivers.
  • Perform pre- and post-operation vehicle inspections according to Company policy, checking tire pressure, fluid levels, safety equipment, gauges, and controls. Report safety issues on standard reports.
  • Safely operate a heavy truck along designated routes and to the disposal site; read route sheets, follow maps, and service customers as assigned.
  • Operate manual and/or automatic controls following Company safety policies and procedures to lift and load refuse, operate the compactor, and dispose of collected material at the designated facility.
  • Interact courteously with customers, dispatchers, and others daily to ensure timely and professional customer service.
  • Identify unsatisfactory waste containers and tag them according to departmental procedures.
  • Continuously monitor waste for unacceptable materials.
  • Clean areas around accidental waste spills, adhering to all applicable safety standards and policies.
  • Continuously monitor vehicle condition to ensure operational readiness and minimize downtime; clean the packer blade and truck body on each disposal trip.
  • Complete required route/productivity sheets, VCRs, and other reports.
  • Maintain adherence to required productivity standards to ensure timely and efficient customer service.
  • Follow all required safety policies and procedures.
  • Actively participate in the Company’s ReSOP program.
  • Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
