Working directly as a Lead Direct Support Professional (DSP) / Caregiver, you will be able to assist in a residential group home by assisting people with disabilities achieve a variety of outcomes, assist with personal cares and provide normalization/community integration. The Lead DSP (caregiver/mentor) is responsible for providing support and mentorship with daily activities to those we support in a manner that ensures their health and safety. Some examples include helping with meals, cleaning, and facilitating fun activities. This role involves hands-on mentoring to those we serve to help them become more independent, providing positive direction to the individuals to encourage them to achieve their personal goals, and providing medication administration and ensuring person's medical well-being. The Lead DSP will act as a role model for staff in the use of the Dungarvin policy manual and policy implementation. Responsibilities include assisting in grocery shopping, transporting clients to appointments, organizing program routines, training staff, and assisting with monthly fire/tornado drills. The role also requires attending team meetings, providing input and follow-up as needed, and monitoring all documentation systems in the service site to ensure accuracy, thoroughness, and timeliness. Additionally, the Lead DSP will assist the Program Director in locating substitute staff for open shifts. To be successful in this role, candidates should have prior experience with high behaviors, both verbal and physical, and provide supports to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities, people who are faced with mental health, behavioral, and/or significant medical challenges. Patience, good decision-making, and crisis management skills are essential, and candidates should not be intimidated by challenging behaviors. Prior IDD, mental health, psychiatric, and/or security experience is strongly preferred.
