About The Position

The Lead Diesel Mechanic is responsible for leading the maintenance, inspection, troubleshooting, repair, and overhaul of diesel-powered vehicles, equipment, generators, and support systems utilized in facility operations. This position provides technical leadership to maintenance personnel, ensures equipment reliability and safety, and supports mission-critical operations within a highly regulated industrial and government environment.

Requirements

  • Must be a US Citizen
  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Minimum 7–10 years of diesel mechanic experience in industrial, government, construction, utility, military, or heavy equipment environments.
  • Demonstrated leadership or supervisory experience.
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, fuel systems, electrical systems, and power generation equipment.
  • Experience using computerized diagnostic equipment and maintenance software.
  • Valid driver's license.

Nice To Haves

  • Technical training in diesel technology, heavy equipment maintenance, or a related field preferred.
  • ASE Medium/Heavy Truck Certification(s).
  • Diesel Technician Certification from a recognized technical institution.
  • Experience maintaining standby and emergency diesel generators.
  • Experience supporting federal, DOE, industrial, utility, or nuclear facilities.
  • Commercial Driver's License (CDL).
  • OSHA 30-Hour certification.
  • Experience with computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).

Responsibilities

  • Lead and coordinate daily diesel maintenance and repair activities.
  • Perform diagnostics, maintenance, and repairs on diesel engines, generators, heavy equipment, trucks, utility vehicles, and associated systems.
  • Troubleshoot and repair fuel, hydraulic, cooling, exhaust, electrical, air brake, and powertrain systems.
  • Schedule and oversee preventive and predictive maintenance programs.
  • Supervise and mentor mechanics, technicians, and subcontractors.
  • Conduct inspections and ensure equipment complies with operational and safety requirements.
  • Diagnose equipment failures using computerized diagnostic tools and testing equipment.
  • Coordinate equipment repairs to minimize downtime and maintain operational readiness.
  • Maintain maintenance records, inspection reports, and work orders in computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS).
  • Support equipment commissioning, testing, and startup activities.
  • Ensure compliance with environmental regulations governing fuels, oils, lubricants, and hazardous materials.
  • Assist with inventory management of parts, tools, and maintenance supplies.
  • Coordinate with operations, engineering, and maintenance teams to resolve equipment issues.
