About The Position

GFL Environmental is seeking an elite, self-driven Lead Diesel & CNG Mechanic to spearhead their night-shift maintenance team. This role involves working with cutting-edge alternative fuel (CNG) technology and offers investment in tools, safety, and future career growth. As a Lead Mechanic, you will utilize master-level expertise in diagnostics, heavy-duty repairs, and preventative maintenance on advanced Diesel and CNG vehicles to ensure the fleet remains safe, compliant, and "road ready." You will also provide leadership and technical mentorship to the night-shift shop crew.

Requirements

• 5+ years of heavy-duty diesel and/or CNG maintenance experience.
• Brake Safety Certificate (Required)
• Section 609 A/C Universal Technician Certification (Required)
• Proficient with modern diagnostic software.
• Computer-literate enough to learn internal fleet management systems.
• Strong working knowledge of DOT, OSHA, and related state/federal safety regulations.
• Ability to read and interpret complex manuals.
• Ability to communicate effectively with shop leadership, vendors, and team members.
• Ability to stand, walk, crouch, crawl, and kneel for extended periods inside, outside, and under heavy equipment.
• Ability to lift up to 50 pounds independently and push/pull up to 100 pounds.
• Excellent visual acuity (including close, distance, color, and peripheral vision) to interpret diagnostic screens and intricate wiring.
• Continuous concentrated mental and visual attention required to safely diagnose complex mechanical issues.
• Valid work authorization in the country where the job is located is required.

• ASE Certifications (Highly Preferred / Company paid if obtained post-hire)
• Valid Class A or B Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) preferred, or the willingness and ability to obtain one within six (6) months of employment (we will help you get it!).

Responsibilities

• Diagnose, troubleshoot, and repair complex issues on Diesel and CNG-powered heavy trucks, including engines, electrical multiplex systems, hydraulics, and fuel/propane delivery systems.
• Independently lead comprehensive DOT and brake inspections, evaluating emission systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other critical components.
• Act as the shop floor leader during the night shift; provide guidance, technical troubleshooting assistance, and mentorship to Level B and C mechanics.
• Oversee mechanical write-ups on equipment, prioritize incoming repairs to maximize shop efficiency, and coordinate the nightly repair schedule.
• Efficiently complete daily work orders, order necessary parts, and maintain accurate digital reports via fleet management software.
• Read, interpret, and apply intricate electrical, hydraulic, and diagnostic schematics.
• Maintain a clean, organized work area and strictly enforce compliance with OSHA, DOT, and internal safety regulations.
