About The Position

The Lead DevOps Engineer is a hands-on technical leader responsible for building and operating production-scale platform engineering capabilities on Kubernetes (Amazon EKS/GKE). This role drives reliability, scalability, security, and developer productivity through standardized platforms, automation, and modern cloud-native practices. This role combines deep technical execution with leadership, owning platform architecture, enterprise DevOps capabilities, and developer experience initiatives, including Backstage-based internal platforms and AI-enabled delivery systems. This is a Hybrid Position located in Frisco, TX. We are only considering candidates within a commutable distance to the Frisco office. You will be required to be onsite on an as-needed basis; when not working onsite, you will work from your home office.

Requirements

  • 8+ years in DevOps / Platform Engineering.
  • Strong hands-on experience with Kubernetes (EKS/GKE) in production at scale.
  • Deep expertise in Terraform and CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions, Jenkins, Harness).
  • Experience with Backstage developer platform (templates, scaffolding, service catalog).
  • Strong programming skills in Golang or Python.
  • Knowledge of cloud-native networking, RBAC, autoscaling, and cluster operations.
  • Experience implementing DevSecOps and secure supply chain practices.
  • Contributions to Backstage OSS or CNCF ecosystem.
  • Experience with Service mesh (Istio / Envoy), Cilium.
  • Experience with API gateways (Envoy Gateway, Kong).
  • Experience with Kafka architecture and operations.
  • Experience with JFrog Artifactory / Curation or similar artifact governance tools.
  • Exposure to AI/ML-enabled DevOps and developer productivity tooling.
  • Experience driving engineering transformation initiatives at enterprise scale.
  • Strong communication, documentation, and cross-team collaboration skills.

Nice To Haves

  • Cloud architecture certifications (AWS/GCP Solutions Architect) is a plus.
  • Kubernetes certifications (CKA, CKAD, CKS) is a plus.
  • DevOps & Infrastructure: HashiCorp Terraform Associate or equivalent CI/CD certification is a plus.

Responsibilities

  • Lead the design, implementation, and operation of large-scale Kubernetes platforms (EKS/GKE) with multi-region architectures ensuring high availability, scalability, and resilience.
  • Own Kubernetes lifecycle management including provisioning, upgrades, patching, scaling, and disaster recovery readiness.
  • Design, build, operate, and harden EKS clusters using Karpenter, Cilium, Istio/Envoy, and IRSA/Pod Identity.
  • Drive multi-cloud platform strategy and modernization initiatives.
  • Design and implement enterprise CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Jenkins, and Harness to improve deployment frequency and release quality.
  • Build reusable Infrastructure as Code (Terraform) modules and platform automation frameworks.
  • Implement AI-driven capabilities for deployment risk analysis, failure prediction, anomaly detection, release scoring, and automated RCA insights.
  • Own and drive adoption of Backstage as the internal developer platform, including software templates, golden paths, scaffolding workflows, and service catalog.
  • Improve developer productivity, onboarding experience, and self-service capabilities across engineering teams.
  • Implement secure software supply chain practices and integrate DevSecOps controls into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Enforce policy-as-code (OPA) and ensure platform security posture and continuous compliance.
  • Define platform health metrics, SLIs/SLOs, and implement operational dashboards and observability practices.
  • Leverage AI for platform health insights, cost optimization, and predictive capacity planning.
  • Lead reliability engineering practices including incident response, postmortems, and automated remediation.
  • Develop and execute upgrade and patching strategies with minimal downtime and operational risk.
  • Provide hands-on technical leadership and guiding platform engineering best practices.
  • Lead architecture reviews, drive platform governance, and ensure cross-functional alignment with engineering, security, and SRE teams.
