About The Position

U.S. Engineering Construction delivers award-winning mechanical contracting, construction, service, and maintenance solutions with a focus on performance and innovation. The Lead Detailer will work closely with the Regional Manager of Virtual Construction, Project Manager, General Foreman, General Contractor, and Subcontractors to lead a team of detailers in completing coordinated Mechanical and Plumbing BIM models. This role requires adherence to U.S. Engineering’s company standards, current building codes, and project requirements, while coordinating with all trades on a given project.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalency required.
  • Proficiency with Revit software.
  • Proficiency with Navisworks Manage software.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Experience with layout of HVAC / Piping / Plumbing.
  • Understanding of layout of HVAC / piping / plumbing.
  • Thorough understanding of HVAC, Piping, and/or Plumbing systems.
  • Understanding of mechanical construction principles and processes.
  • Understanding of building codes.
  • Ability to define fabrication breaks for the shop.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer aided drafting software: Revit, Navisworks Manage, Basic AutoCAD Skills, Procore, Autodesk Fabrication.
  • Analytical skills.
  • Ability to adapt to changing technology / computer systems, software, etc.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and adapt to shifting priorities.
  • Mathematical skills.
  • Ability to read and understand structural and architectural drawings.
  • Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the United States on a full-time basis without requiring future sponsorship for employment visa status.

Nice To Haves

  • Associates Degree in Engineering or Drafting Technology helpful.
  • Completion of a trade related apprenticeship program will be required in certain locations, based on union contractual agreements.
  • Proficiency with AutoCAD software preferred.
  • Proficiency with Procore software preferred.
  • Minimum of 5 years experience in the field as a Pipe Fitter, Plumber or Sheet Metal worker is preferred.
  • Understanding of mechanical systems (HVAC, Pipefitting, Plumbing) preferred.
  • Bluebeam Revu helpful but not required.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Virtual Construction Project Manager and Regional Manager of Virtual Construction.
  • Have responsibility of members of the project detailing team, including determining staff level and performance management.
  • Model and/or run a crew of detailers to build and coordinate 3D, intelligent models of the project and create required deliverable documents.
  • Use knowledge of Revit software, building trades, and codes to model, coordinate, and produce shop and fabrication deliverables.
  • Oversee and coordinate models with all in-house trades, as well as out-of-house project teams.
  • Perform routine to complex assignments requiring a thorough knowledge of computer-aided drafting system standards, practices, and techniques.
  • Analyze submittals, sketches, notes, and other input material to determine the best approach to complete drawings.
  • Apply judgment and make decisions that protect US Engineering with respect to drawings and input interpretation.
  • Review work performed by the detailing team to determine accuracy.
  • Continue to develop increased proficiency in system operation, resulting in increased productivity and learning how to use all software options.
