About The Position

The Lead Dental Assistant supports the mission of People’s Community Clinic by assuring that dental services are delivered in a manner consistent with PCC’s strong commitment to high-quality care and strong patient satisfaction. This position works as a member of a care team to coordinate patient care and support patients and families in self-management, self-efficacy, and behavior change. Care team members are expected to assess and manage the health needs of the patient population and to communicate effectively with all patients, especially vulnerable populations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma/GED
  • Completion of a dental assistant program from an accredited school.
  • Minimum two years experience as a chairside dental assistant.
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish required.
  • Knowledge of dental equipment, material, procedures, terminology, and chart preparation.
  • Excellent customer service skills and ability to interact effectively with a diverse population.
  • Self-starter; able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills; Patient, flexible, and able to juggle multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
  • Ability to problem-solve and implement solutions for optimal clinic productivity.
  • Proficiency in MS Word, Excel, and Outlook.
  • Registered dental assistant, currently licensed in the State of Texas
  • CPR Certified
  • X-ray Certified

Responsibilities

  • Greet patients, check in for appointments, screen for insurance eligibility, check out, and schedule follow-up appointments as necessary.
  • Prepare patients for treatment or checkups, ensuring their comfort and a positive dental experience.
  • Verify patient health history, record blood pressure, document patient treatment chairside, and document appropriately in the patient’s chart, abiding by state and federal laws.
  • Assist dentist/hygienist during treatments and procedures. Expose dental diagnostic x-rays; clean, sterilize, and prepare the equipment and operatory, including stocking supplies and set-up instruments before a patient’s appointment, per the organization’s procedures and guidelines.
  • Create an environment of respect and compassion for patients and staff and support a friendly and positive work environment.
  • Identify opportunities to improve workflow, work processes, and patient care, and work cooperatively to implement these and other quality improvements.
  • Adhere to OSHA, HIPAA, and Infection control guidelines.
  • Track dental laboratory cases and maintain a log of the dates when they were sent, received, and delivered.
  • Collaborate with the dental operations manager on patient confirmation, treatment plan presentation, and referrals.
  • Monitor dental supplies and dental supply ordering: maintain a running list of dental supply inventory.
  • Monitor dental supply expirations and dispose of materials accordingly.
  • Work in conjunction with the management team to properly and efficiently request dental supply needs, and use the appropriate requisition channel for ordering while adhering to the inventory budget.
  • Directs and leads dental assistants in continuous process improvements.
  • Leads clinical staff in maintaining a smooth patient workflow with the front office staff and clinical teams to promote timely and exceptional patient experience visits.
  • Collaborates with other office staff to improve and provide better patient care.
  • Ensures adequate coverage of dental assistants to ensure efficient workflow.
  • Mentors and trains other clinical staff.
  • Maintains the knowledge that is a resource to other clinical staff and uses their expertise to improve patient care and advance company goals.
  • Responsible for the professional and clinical development of the other dental assistants in the office.
  • Assists in the efficient transition and adaptation of new dental assistant staff.
