About The Position

This position involves taking digital intra-oral and extra oral radiographic imaging, including cone beam computed tomography and various standard views. The role requires reviewing radiographs, processing imaging materials, greeting and screening patients, and confirming authorization for examinations. Additionally, the Lead Dental Assistant/Radiographer will provide four-handed chairside assistance to dental students, assign patients, monitor instrument collection, dispense supplies, and maintain the cleanliness and safety of the work area, including proper disposal of infectious materials and adherence to HIPAA compliance.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent.
  • Graduate of a Dental Assistant Training Program and 2 years of related experience.
  • Certification as a Dental Assistant.
  • Knowledge of four-handed chairside dental techniques and dental lab equipment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to operate standard office equipment.

Nice To Haves

  • NYSDOH approved CBCT training for dental assistants.
  • Valid New York State Radiology Technology license or Dental Hygiene license.
  • Ability to provide radiographic imaging services consistent with current national radiographic and radiologic guidelines.
  • Knowledge of a foreign language (e.g., Spanish, Korean, Chinese).

Responsibilities

  • Take digital intra-oral and extra oral radiographic imaging (e.g. cone beam computed tomography, and bitewing, periapical, occlusal and panoramic views in analog/film and digital/plate/sensor formats).
  • Review radiographs within guidelines.
  • Process and route imaging related materials.
  • Greet, screen and direct patients.
  • Confirm patient is authorized for a radiographic examination.
  • Provide four-handed chairside assistance to dental students.
  • Assign patients to dental students, within guidelines.
  • Monitor collection of instruments; dispense supplies, disposable materials, instrument and equipment.
  • Maintain cleanliness of the work area and quality and safety standards; ensure proper recycling, disposal of infectious materials and adherence to infection control protocols and HIPAA compliance.
