About The Position

Life360 is seeking a Lead Decision Scientist to act as a strategic partner embedded with product, engineering, marketing, and finance teams. This role will shape product development, growth strategies, and investment decisions. The Lead Decision Scientist will own the analytical narrative for their assigned area, delivering insights that directly influence roadmaps and resource allocation, with a focus on driving decisions rather than just creating dashboards. A key aspect of this role is contributing to Life360's AI-native organization by shaping the tools and workflows that enable automation, allowing the team to focus on deeper analysis. This is not a production ML role; the primary tools will be statistical inference, clear thinking, and strategic judgment. The position reports to the Data & Analytics leadership team and collaborates with data engineers, data scientists, and ML engineers.

Requirements

  • 6+ years in an analytics, data science, or decision science role at a consumer tech company
  • Advanced degree in a quantitative field (economics, statistics, quantitative social science, operations research) or equivalent practical experience
  • Demonstrated experience with causal inference methods in applied settings (e.g., difference-in-differences, instrumental variables, regression discontinuity, synthetic controls, propensity score matching)
  • Track record of influencing product or business strategy through data, with specific examples of cross-functional impact
  • Experience with experimentation platforms (Statsig, Optimizely, or similar)
  • Proficiency in SQL and Python/R for statistical analysis
  • Problem-solving mindset: Structure ambiguous problems precisely before reaching for a tool.
  • Ownership mentality: Take responsibility for work from framing the question through delivering the recommendation and tracking its impact.
  • AI-native working style: Use AI tooling (Claude Code or equivalent) as a genuine development partner.
  • Curiosity and initiative: Dig into data because you're genuinely curious about how things work.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with subscription or freemium business models
  • Familiarity with international / multi-market analytics
  • Experience building dbt models or contributing to analytics engineering workflows
  • Background in growth, retention, or lifecycle analytics
  • Experience with LTV modeling, incrementality testing, or marketing mix modeling

Responsibilities

  • Be the strategic thought partner for cross-functional teams (PMs, engineers, marketing, finance).
  • Understand roadmaps and users, identifying gaps between data and team assumptions.
  • Tell stories that move teams to act by presenting to leadership and working teams with clear narratives and a point of view.
  • Establish causality using A/B testing, analytics, and causal inference methods.
  • Work with engineering to implement event instrumentation and with Product to translate insights into action.
  • Develop and implement metrics strategies that measure what matters to users and the business, based on user experience.
  • Build explanations on top of measurement, grounding analysis in user motivations and context.
  • Use AI to multiply impact, utilizing coding agents and automated analysis daily.
  • Help shape the AI-native analytics stack, contributing to the evolution from reactive to proactive to autonomous analytics.
