About The Position
ACLD, established in 1957 by families seeking services for children with developmental disabilities, is a leading not-for-profit agency with over 1200 staff and 70+ program sites in Nassau and Suffolk. ACLD helps children, teens, and adults achieve the highest level of independence. The agency is seeking positive, motivated individuals to work in a day habilitation setting, assisting adults diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities in becoming self-sufficient and self-actualized. This role offers an entry-level career opportunity in the healthcare/education field.
Requirements
- High School Diploma or equivalent required
- One year experience in OPWDD field required
- Complete (within 90 days of hire) and maintain required training in SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) Restrictive Certification, CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), First Aid, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
- Obtain (within 180 days of hire) and maintain AMAP (Approved Medication Administration Personnel)
- The Ability to assist with lifting and transferring a person
- Ability to communicate and understand in English; both verbally and in writing
- Clean valid NYS Driver's License
Nice To Haves
- Two (2) years of experience preferred
Responsibilities
- Help program participants achieve/exceed their personal goals
- Provide structure and emotional support
- Assist in resolving behavioral issues
- Help people supported with personal hygiene
- Complete detailed, accurate documentation
- Transport the people supported to and from volunteer and pre-vocational activities using Agency vehicles
