About The Position

ACLD, established in 1957 by families seeking services for children with developmental disabilities, is a leading not-for-profit agency with over 1200 staff and 70+ program sites in Nassau and Suffolk. ACLD helps children, teens, and adults achieve the highest level of independence. The agency is seeking positive, motivated individuals to work in a day habilitation setting, assisting adults diagnosed with intellectual/developmental disabilities in becoming self-sufficient and self-actualized. This role offers an entry-level career opportunity in the healthcare/education field.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or equivalent required
  • One year experience in OPWDD field required
  • Complete (within 90 days of hire) and maintain required training in SCIP (Strategies for Crisis Intervention and Prevention) Restrictive Certification, CPR (Cardio-Pulmonary Resuscitation), First Aid, and AED (Automated External Defibrillator)
  • Obtain (within 180 days of hire) and maintain AMAP (Approved Medication Administration Personnel)
  • The Ability to assist with lifting and transferring a person
  • Ability to communicate and understand in English; both verbally and in writing
  • Clean valid NYS Driver's License

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of experience preferred

Responsibilities

  • Help program participants achieve/exceed their personal goals
  • Provide structure and emotional support
  • Assist in resolving behavioral issues
  • Help people supported with personal hygiene
  • Complete detailed, accurate documentation
  • Transport the people supported to and from volunteer and pre-vocational activities using Agency vehicles
