About The Position

Ovative Group is hiring a Lead Data & Software Engineer as the technical leader for its client delivery team. The team brings clients live on EMRge, Ovative’s proprietary intelligence platform, and supports them after launch. This role sets technical strategy for client delivery, determines engineering priorities, and represents delivery’s technical needs to Product teams and senior stakeholders. The position combines technical leadership with hands-on engineering on critical or ambiguous work, such as developing new integration patterns or proofs of concept. The Lead owns delivery-platform architecture, establishes engineering standards, mentors engineers, and leads technical responses to challenging client situations. The role is based from Ovative’s Minneapolis, Chicago, or New York office on set days each week, with the option to work remotely on other days.

Requirements

  • 7+ years of data and software engineering experience.
  • Expert-level SQL and Python.
  • Deep experience designing data platforms and pipelines at scale.
  • Experience with a major cloud platform, ideally GCP or Azure.
  • Hands-on experience with LLM orchestration, including tools, agents, and workflows.
  • Proven ability to influence Product teams and senior stakeholders and shape what gets built.
  • Experience mentoring engineers and raising a team's technical bar.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with Databricks and Dagster.
  • A history of taking proofs of concept to production or deciding not to.
  • Experience owning data architecture for a platform area.
  • Experience with marketing, analytics, or customer data.
  • Experience on a client delivery, implementation, or professional services team.

Responsibilities

  • Set technical strategy for client delivery, identify where rollouts slow down, and determine what to address first.
  • Prioritize improvements that make the client-facing platform faster, more reliable, and easier to use.
  • Partner with Product teams, translate field experience into requirements, shape designs, and challenge designs that will not work in the field.
  • Own delivery-platform architecture and make decisions about patterns, tooling, and trade-offs, including the use of Dagster and Databricks.
  • Select and lead important proofs of concept, then recommend whether to productize them or stop.
  • Drive system-level fixes for issues that recur across clients.
  • Define and model engineering standards for testing, security, deployment, and documentation.
  • Mentor engineers through design reviews and direct coaching.
  • Serve as the technical escalation point for the hardest client situations and represent the team to client-facing and executive leaders.
  • Evaluate tools and technologies, including AI development practices, and decide what the team adopts.
  • Write code on the most critical or ambiguous pieces of work.
