About The Position

The MedTech Supply Chain Digital organization is seeking a Lead Data Scientist with strong hands-on expertise in Generative AI, LLMs, agentic AI systems, classical machine learning, computer vision, and end-to-end ML solution delivery. In this role, you will lead the design, development, and deployment of production-grade AI solutions that drive measurable business impact across J&J MedTech. You are a highly motivated, self-directed critical thinker who excels in a fast-paced environment where rapid prototyping, iterative experimentation, and close cross-functional collaboration are the norm. You will partner with product managers, data engineers, and business leaders to shape and execute a cohesive AI/ML product strategy that accelerates product-led transformation, maximizes reusability, and delivers scalable, cost-effective solutions across J&J's integrated digital ecosystem. If you thrive on turning ideas into working solutions quickly, enjoy collaborating across disciplines, and want to operate at the forefront of AI innovation within a global enterprise this role is for you.

Requirements

  • PhD with 1+ years or MS with 3+ years of proven hands-on experience in data science, building and deploying large-scale ML models and systems in cloud environments (Azure preferred)
  • Demonstrated expertise in LLMs, Generative AI, and agentic AI including hands on experience with frameworks such as LangChain, LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, CrewAI, or similar orchestration tools
  • Proven track record of deploying AI/ML solutions to production including model serving, API development, scalability considerations, and monitoring
  • Strong programming skills in Python; proficiency with ML libraries (such as PyTorch, TensorFlow, scikit-learn, Hugging Face, etc.) and data processing tools (Spark, SQL, Pandas)
  • Depth and breadth in state-of-the-art agentic AI technologies, multi-agent systems, tool use, planning and reasoning architectures, memory management, and human-in-the-loop patterns
  • Experience with prompt engineering, LLM fine-tuning, RAG pipelines, embedding strategies, and evaluation frameworks for generative AI solutions
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and written skills ability to translate complex technical concepts for non-technical stakeholders; highly developed negotiating and influencing skills

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with MLOps and DevOps workflows, CI/CD pipelines, model versioning, experiment tracking (MLflow, Weights & Biases), containerization (Docker, Kubernetes), and infrastructure-as-code
  • Experience with Azure AI services, Azure OpenAI, Azure AI Foundry, Azure Machine Learning, Cognitive Services, and related cloud-native AI tooling
  • Familiarity with responsible AI frameworks, fairness, explainability, bias detection, and model governance at enterprise scale
  • Experience in multi-functional projects and partnering directly with business stakeholders to drive adoption and change management
  • Domain experience in Demand/Supply Planning, Manufacturing, or Supply Chain concepts and their data ecosystems
  • Experience with real-time/streaming AI systems or event-driven architectures
  • Publications or patents in AI/ML-related fields are a plus

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end AI/ML and GenAI projects, from business problem framing and requirements gathering through data preparation, model development, solution architecture, production deployment, and post-production monitoring and optimization
  • Architect and deliver comprehensive ML-based solutions for highly complex, cross-functional projects that address diverse challenges and opportunities across J&J's business segments
  • Design, build, and deploy agentic AI systems, including multi-agent orchestration, tool-use frameworks, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), and autonomous decision-making workflows
  • Conduct proof-of-concepts (POCs) and rapidly prototype ML/GenAI-based digital products aligned with business priorities across various segments and functions, translating POCs into production-grade solutions
  • Collaborate closely with product management, engineering, and business partners to define product vision, develop technical roadmaps, and ensure AI solutions deliver measurable business value
  • Provide technical leadership and mentorship to data scientists and ML engineers; conduct code reviews, model reviews, and establish best practices for the team
  • Author and review technical proposals, design documents, and reports; contribute to internal knowledge sharing and external thought leadership in AI/ML
  • Stay at the forefront of the AI/ML landscape, continuously evaluate emerging technologies (foundation models, agentic frameworks, multi-modal AI) and drive their adoption to evolve the broader Data Science team's capabilities
  • Establish and enforce standards for model governance, responsible AI practices, reproducibility, and documentation across the project lifecycle
