Lead Data Engineer
About The Position
Thomson Reuters is seeking a highly skilled, strategic Lead Data Engineer in an advanced individual contributor role. The position leads the development of sophisticated reporting solutions, data pipelines, frameworks, and dashboards using tools including DBT, Snowflake, SQL, Python, Claude.AI, Power BI, Tableau, Excel, and PowerPoint. A critical focus is integrating advanced AI solutions into reporting to improve data-driven decision-making. The role partners with senior stakeholders to define complex reporting needs, deliver actionable insights, and support data-informed strategies. It analyzes large and complex datasets, advances AI and machine learning applications, and establishes standards for data integrity, accuracy, and governance. The Lead Data Engineer mentors team members, leads data projects from conception through deployment, contributes to the technical roadmap, and communicates strategic findings to executive stakeholders. This position is open due to an existing vacancy to support evolving business needs.
Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, Business Analytics, or a related field.
- At least 8 years of progressive experience in data engineering or a similar role, including a track record leading complex reporting and dashboard projects and delivering business intelligence solutions.
- Expert proficiency in DBT, SQL, Alteryx, Snowflake, Power BI, Tableau, Python, Excel, and PowerPoint.
- Hands-on experience designing, implementing, and operationalizing AI solutions and machine learning algorithms to solve business problems.
- Strong analytical, critical-thinking, and problem-solving skills, including the ability to interpret complex data and translate it into strategic business insights.
- Excellent communication, presentation, and influencing skills, including the ability to explain technical concepts to diverse audiences and senior leadership.
- Ability to lead technical initiatives autonomously, collaborate effectively, and mentor junior colleagues.
- Advanced proficiency in Python or R for complex data analysis, automation, and statistical modeling.
- Expert-level SQL, Snowflake, and DBT skills for data extraction, manipulation, transformation, and query optimization.
- Deep understanding and practical experience with data warehousing, ETL processes, data governance, and emerging AI technologies such as Claude.AI, Copilot, and large language models.
- Strategic mindset and ability to connect data insights to broader business strategy and outcomes.

Responsibilities
- Lead the architecture, development, design, and maintenance of complex, interactive, dynamic data pipelines, frameworks, and dashboards.
- Partner with senior stakeholders to define reporting needs, deliver actionable insights, and drive data-informed strategies.
- Implement advanced AI and machine learning techniques to innovate reporting and provide predictive and prescriptive insights.
- Analyze large, complex datasets to identify trends, patterns, and anomalies that inform strategic business decisions.
- Establish and enforce best practices for data integrity, accuracy, and governance, and mentor team members on these standards.
- Provide guidance, mentorship, and training on reporting tools, analytical methods, and emerging AI technologies.
- Drive continuous improvement of reporting processes and tools, research and implement industry trends and technologies, and contribute to the technical roadmap.
- Present complex findings and strategic recommendations to executive stakeholders through reports and presentations.
- Lead data projects from conception through deployment, ensuring business alignment and technical excellence.
- Serve as a subject matter expert and technical escalation point for data analysis and reporting.
