About The Position

Lead Data Analyst which supports the operation, maintenance and/or construction of the utility system by maintaining, reporting, analyzing data, and providing system administrator role for a number of data systems within their assigned area. Lead Data Analyst level is expected to demonstrate advanced skills and be considered an expert in their discipline. They must combine an extensive knowledge of the data system functionality and data maintained within the supported database systems. They will have extensive knowledge of the asset data systems and the business processes and procedures in which the data represents. They work with minimal supervision and increased latitude for unreviewed work, working independently, in teams, and in a non-supervisory role providing technical work to other department employees. Provides lead role in the data quality processes (data analysis, maintenance, development, audits) to ensure that all the data and applications are delivered consistently, the data management system’s data standards are used, Service Level Agreements are observed, and process improvements are realized to ensure stakeholders in the department receive data and applications that can be fully utilized to maximize their value to the business. Advises and consults with Information Technology and other departments to influence future development of the data and work management systems and associated processes. Assists in evaluating the technical aspects of software purchase decisions, as well as assisting in identifying data requirements for installation of the system at Duke Energy. Assists in testing of such systems to ensure that the new system will function as specified and with other business applications existing at Duke Energy.

Requirements

  • Bachelors degree in Mathematics, Computer Science, Information Technology
  • 8 years related work experience
  • In Lieu of Degree (s) listed above, High School/GED and 15 years related work experience
  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of the data system functionality and data maintained within the supported database systems with an extensive knowledge of the asset data systems and the other utility related systems (Maximo, Service Suite, GIS, etc.).
  • Successfully completed college-level courses, or equivalent training, within databases and searching in them.
  • Highly skilled in querying and reporting information from databases using SQL and other querying languages.
  • Demonstrate the ability to work with numerous organizational level personnel, both within and external to the company (e.g. Leadership members, Engineering, GIS, Operations, IT, Business Support, etc.)
  • Demonstrate excellent interpersonal skills with the ability and willingness to share information and transfer knowledge to others.
  • Demonstrate strong customer-service attitude.
  • Outstanding leadership skills.
  • Skilled in the principles of project management.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to lead organized group meetings where needed.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in work management systems in the past (Maximo, ARM, Service Suite or equivalent).
  • Compatible Unit (CU) development and maintenance experience at an operations level.
  • Exploring new data languages to enhance database searching capabilities.
  • Use of the Data Marketplace within Duke Energy. It includes features for preparing and publishing data products, interfaces, and data sets for usage.
  • Understanding of data tools and programming languages such as R, Python, Power BI, Tableau, or Apache Spark.
  • Utilization of AI Tools to help automate tasks, perform data analysis and present streamlined processes for operational efficiency.

Responsibilities

  • Within the asset management and work management systems, provide technical guidance for work within those systems, maintain the Compatible Units (CU’s), and work with “customers” for their data needs.
  • Provide data and reports to various personnel as requested, developing reports and queries of high complexity to extract data stored within database tables and/or reporting hubs and/or utilizing the functionality inherent in the data system (e.g. Maximo, Service Suite advanced search functionality) or utilizing pre-existing reports and queries.
  • Develop/coordinate standard methodology and practices for use of the data in the asset management systems.
  • Administer and support various computer systems and tools. Examples may include, but are not limited to, software, applications, databases, SharePoint sites, web pages, shared servers, etc.
  • Develop specifications to create needed functionality not available in existing tools and test software upgrades and changes
  • Develop and deliver training on functionality and use of the Asset & Work Management Data systems and supporting other applications.
