About The Position

Full-time position available on or after October 5, 2026 for Custodial Services. This position’s responsibilities are carried out under general direction. The incumbent is responsible for performing the full range of custodial duties while providing day-to-day work coordination, guidance, and operational support for assigned custodial staff. The position supports custodial operations by coordinating workflow, training staff in proper custodial and safety practices, monitoring completed work, and assisting with daily operational and work coverage needs to ensure campus facilities are maintained in a clean, safe, and functional condition. The incumbent also supports campus events and daily operations through coordination of custodial services, supplies, equipment, and related operational needs while working collaboratively with staff, students, and campus departments.

Requirements

  • None (Education)
  • Equivalent to one to two years of related custodial experience and providing on-the-job training and leadership to others.

Nice To Haves

  • Two (2) years of custodial experience in a campus, educational, or multi-building custodial environment, including providing lead work direction or training to custodial staff.
  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Prior experience in a CSU or higher education setting.
  • Experience providing lead work direction, training, and work review for custodial staff in a campus, educational, or large-scale custodial environment.
  • Experience performing custodial floor care including stripping, sealing, waxing, polishing, carpet cleaning, and operating powered custodial equipment used in multi-building facilities.
  • Experience coordinating custodial support for classrooms, restrooms, student-populated areas, and campus events.
  • Experience maintaining attendance records, reviewing labor cards or timekeeping documents, and using computerized systems to track work orders and custodial supply needs.
  • Experience identifying, organizing, maintaining, and ordering custodial equipment, chemicals, supplies, and materials used in daily custodial services.
  • Working Knowledge of the methods, chemicals, and equipment used in custodial work and of the safety and sanitation practices and measures.
  • Working Knowledge effective lead/supervisory practices and techniques.
  • Ability to provide lead work direction, including training others in proper work methods and safety and providing feedback on work performance.
  • Ability to read and write English at a level appropriate to the duties of the position.
  • Ability to establish, promote and maintain cooperative work relationships with others
  • Ability to analyze situations and take appropriate action.
  • Ability to use computers to track work orders and order supplies and materials.
  • Possession of a valid California's Driver's License

Responsibilities

  • Assign, coordinate, review, and inspect the work of assigned custodial staff to ensure completion of daily assignments and adherence to departmental standards.
  • Train and instruct custodial staff in proper custodial procedures, safety practices, and the safe use of custodial equipment, tools, chemicals, and materials.
  • Assist custodial staff and perform custodial duties alongside team members to support daily operations and staffing needs.
  • Provide daily work instructions and operational updates to assigned staff.
  • Assist with maintaining attendance and operational records, including reviewing labor cards and reporting absences.
  • Provide input to management regarding employee work performance and operational concerns.
  • Attend required staff, safety, and lead meetings.
  • Perform the full range of custodial duties including floor care, restroom sanitation, trash and recycling removal, and cleaning of interior and exterior building areas.
  • Clean classrooms, restrooms, lobbies, locker rooms, and other campus facilities to maintain safe and sanitary conditions.
  • Coordinate custodial support for campus events, including event setup and cleanup activities.
  • Respond to custodial service requests and report facility maintenance, safety, and repair needs.
  • Operate custodial equipment and assigned vehicles to transport staff, equipment, materials, and supplies.
  • Ensure campus unlocks and related opening procedures are completed in accordance with departmental procedures.
  • Safeguard buildings, equipment, supplies, and campus property from unauthorized use or access.
  • Follow established safety procedures, sanitation standards, and departmental protocols.
  • Report injuries, accidents, unsafe conditions, and unusual or suspicious activity in accordance with department procedures.
  • Ensure custodial closets and storage areas are properly stocked, organized and chemicals are properly labeled and stored.
  • Identify, report, and order custodial equipment, supplies, and materials needed to support daily operations.
  • Use computerized systems to track work orders and order custodial supplies and materials.
  • May be required to obtain additional training and/or certification as part of professional development, based on department and/or campus needs, to stay current with industry standards.
  • At the direction of appropriate administrator, may provide support to other areas as needed.
  • Other duties as assigned.
