About The Position

This position serves as the leadworker of the custodian crew. Cleans all or designated portions of City facilities or grounds. Performs any combination of tasks described below, in accordance with established procedures, subject to inspection for adherence to required standards of cleanliness and compliance with instructions. In addition, this position is responsible for inventory and ordering of supplies and equipment.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED equivalent, plus three (3) years experience as a custodian.
  • Valid Driver’s License: With proof of automobile insurance
  • Background Check: Must have an acceptable background record
  • Driving Abstract: Must have an acceptable driving record
  • Required to understand basic arithmetic and speak, read, write English.
  • Knowledge of cleaning materials, equipment, methods and procedures.
  • Ability to use and maintain a variety of cleaning equipment.
  • Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors, managers and the public.

Nice To Haves

  • Additional education and experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted for the above requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the work of the custodial crew.
  • Assists in the selection, training, and evaluation of performance of custodians.
  • Sweeps, mops, waxes and polishes floors; washes walls and woodwork; dusts furniture, piping, valves, etc.
  • Washes and polishes windows and metal surfaces.
  • Assists in ordering supplies, receiving supplies, and recycling.
  • Cleans restrooms and maintains supplies.
  • Empties waste cans and ashtrays.
  • Performs general custodial duties on grounds, including picking up litter and sweeping walks.
  • Reports any repairs or adjustments required.
  • Cleans City appliances located in the common areas of the fourth floor.
  • Set up furniture and equipment for special functions, meetings, etc. at City Hall.
  • Must effectively and positively represent the City in delivering and performing work with colleagues and clients, irrespective of gender, race, religion, age, disability, political affiliation or belief, or sexual orientation.
  • Must establish and maintain effective and professional relationships with work colleagues, supervisors and managers.
