About The Position

This position serves as a working shift leader for assigned custodians and performs custodial duties. The role is responsible for the care of the facility to maintain a safe, secure, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient educational environment. This includes cleaning, moving student equipment, setting up for programs and activities, special projects, maintaining a secure building, and monitoring/operating major building systems and related equipment. The assignment is for 12 months, 40 hours per week, effective July 24, 2026.

Requirements

  • Maintained regular attendance with no occurrences of attendance abuse during the previous two years as described in Article 13 Section E of the current agreement.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and appropriately with students, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to exhibit patience and understanding with students, staff, and the general public.
  • Ability to understand and follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Ability to use prescribed safety and personal protective equipment.
  • Ability to lift up to 40 lbs. on a frequent basis and up to 80 lbs. on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to perform difficult physical labor in variable weather conditions.
  • Ability to climb stairs and ladders on a frequent basis.
  • Ability to work from scaffolding and lifts on an occasional basis.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend, twist, and reach while performing assignments.
  • Ability to operate all related equipment.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • High level of skill and knowledge of all cleaning procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to perform minor building maintenance and systems operational checks as outlined by the supervisor.
  • Successfully completed a District-recognized program in supervision and custodial methods.
  • Equivalent training and work experience as approved by the committee may be accepted if a recognized course cannot be identified.

Responsibilities

  • Perform assigned custodial duties.
  • Provide direction for the custody and care of the facility.
  • Maintain a safe, secure, attractive, comfortable, clean, and efficient educational environment.
  • Clean, move student equipment, and set up for programs and activities.
  • Complete special projects as assigned.
  • Maintain a secure building.
  • Monitor and operate all major building systems and related equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge, skills, and physical ability for operating cleaning equipment.
  • Maintain knowledge, skills, and physical ability for moving school equipment and setting up/breaking down for programs.
  • Maintain knowledge, skills, and physical ability for monitoring and operating basic building systems.
  • Develop positive employee attitudes and use positive reinforcement.
  • Schedule custodial assignments daily and ensure timely completion of tasks.
  • Devote at least 1/3 of the shift to supervision, 1/3 to a specific section, and the balance to building needs.
  • Provide supervisor with input in the evaluation of assigned staff.
  • Encourage teamwork among shifts.
  • Work with and direct others in job assignments.
  • Train others in the operation of equipment.
  • Ensure cleaning equipment is properly cleaned and maintained.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively when conveying expectations.
  • Exhibit fairness in assigning tasks and working with assigned staff.
  • Inform supervisor of potential trouble spots in building systems and equipment.
  • Observe and comply with required codes.
  • Perform snow removal and salting as needed.
  • Perform assigned tasks in an appropriate amount of time.
  • Identify and remedy potential safety and health problems.
  • Project an exemplary image of the District.
  • Report misuses and needed repairs to school property in writing.
  • Participate in District-sponsored training programs.
  • Effectively communicate and respond to electronic communications.
  • Perform additional related duties as assigned.
