About The Position

PATH is seeking candidates passionate about helping others make a positive change in their lives to join our Interim Housing team as the Lead Cook at the RHC location. As part of the Interim Housing team, the Lead Cook helps create a welcoming, homelike environment and develops nutritious meals for our guests. The work alongside a team of kitchen and interim housing program staff to ensure that all PATH Interim Housing guests receive three meals each day and snacks/refreshments throughout the day as needed.

  • Three (3) years of professional food service experience in a fast-paced environment
  • Maintain an up-to-date California Food Handlers Certificate
  • Have employment eligibility verification
  • Have or be able and willing to obtain CPR/First Aid training
  • Successfully complete the following as a condition of hire: Tuberculosis Test, Background Screening, Drug Test
  • Have reliable transportation
  • A valid driver’s license
  • Proof of insurance and ownership for personal vehicles used during work duties
  • The ability to qualify for PATH's insurance coverage

Nice To Haves

  • A degree or diploma from a culinary program
  • Five (5) years of experience in a professional kitchen

Responsibilities

  • Provide all guests with a home-like environment during their stay in the PATH Interim Housing program.
  • Promote and follow interim housing established values, guidelines, and rules.
  • Assist all volunteers by providing all necessary food safety support to ensure that they have valuable experience.
  • Oversee the preparation of large quantities of food with staggered cooking, heating, baking, etc.
  • Prepare food and beverages according to standardized recipes, production sheets, and menus.
  • Ensure that guests' meals are served at established meal scheduled times and support other kitchen staff as required.
  • Organize duties so that foods are prepared for service at appropriate times and within acceptable temperature ranges.
  • Ensure the commercial kitchen runs smoothly, including coordinating staff schedules, stocking supplies, coordinating meal deliveries to offsite locations and delegating tasks.
  • Monitor food inventory levels.
  • Request, store, label, rotate, and dispose of all food and supply items, perishable and non-perishable.
  • Maintain health and safety codes in adherence with Department of Public Health standards which include proper food handling procedures, sanitation and cleanliness to the site and reporting any issues to management.
  • Maintain sanitary conditions during all food preparation and delivery by following correct infection control procedures and by thoroughly cleaning work areas and equipment in the department, including walls and floors.
  • Assist with recipe development, modification and posting the monthly menu for the site.
  • Manage and maintain the up-to-date guest dietary restriction list for the site and ensure guests on the list receive their approved meals.
  • Assist with organizing, preparing and set up on-site special events to include barbeques, holiday events, ice cream socials, and other events as assigned.
  • Operate all electric, gas and steam equipment properly which includes setting up a portable steam able served in the dining room.
  • Maintain equipment in proper sanitary and operating condition.
  • Provide support as needed with picking up and dropping off food donations and meals to multiple sites utilizing PATH company vehicle.
