About The Position

GenCare Lifestyle @ Pt. Ruston is a Premier IL/AL/Memory Care Senior Living Community in Tacoma, and a recent multiple US News & World Report Community Award Winner. We are currently seeking a qualified Lead Cook/Sous Chef to join our exceptional Culinary Team. GenCare Lifestyle promotes a Whole Life Living program and Assisted Living/Health Services that focuses on the mind, body, and soul. We are looking for a professional Lead Cook to be the second in command in our kitchen, following our Culinary Director's and GenCare standards and policies. The successful candidate will employ their culinary and managerial skills to play a critical role in maintaining and enhancing our residents’ satisfaction.

Requirements

  • 2+ years of experience as a Sous Chef
  • Understanding of various cooking methods, ingredients, equipment, and procedures
  • Excellent record of kitchen and staff management
  • Flexibility and availability
  • Accuracy and speed in handling emergency situations and providing solutions
  • All offers of employment are contingent upon the candidate passing a background check, reference check and meeting minimum requirements and providing all required employment documentation.

Nice To Haves

  • Prefer some familiarity with senior community environment and cooking in this venue.

Responsibilities

  • Help in the preparation and execution of all food production
  • Have mastery over all cooking techniques utilized in batch and line cooking of standard American fare
  • Ensure that the kitchen operates efficiently
  • Have full control of the planning and directing food preparation for the week
  • Resourcefully solve any issues that arise and seize control of any problematic situation
  • Manage and train kitchen staff
  • Assist with ordering and inventory
  • Comply with and enforce strict sanitation regulations and safety standards
  • Maintain a positive and professional approach with coworkers and customers
  • Fill in when needed
  • Flexible with schedule
  • Following, interpreting, and elevating company recipes
