About The Position

Tigg's Canteen Services is seeking a dependable and motivated Permanent Part-Time Lead Cook to join our food service team at Branch County Jail in Coldwater, MI. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys working in a kitchen environment, has strong leadership skills, and wants to be part of a company that values hard work, teamwork, and professionalism. As a Lead Cook, you will play an important role in the daily operation of the kitchen. You will assist with meal preparation, help maintain a clean and organized kitchen, and provide leadership and direction to kitchen staff. The ideal candidate is someone who can work independently, follow established procedures, and maintain a professional attitude in a structured correctional facility environment.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays on a rotating basis.
  • Flexibility to work varying days and hours, generally between 8:30 AM and 5:00 PM.
  • Must be able to obtain and maintain clearance approval to enter the facility.
  • The ability to work well in a structured correctional environment.
  • Strong communication and leadership skills.
  • A positive attitude and dependable work ethic.
  • The ability to read and follow company recipes and written instructions.
  • The ability to work independently as well as with a team.
  • The ability to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.
  • The ability to lead, instruct, and assist with various kitchen duties, including food preparation, baking, cooking, serving, and clean-up.
  • A commitment to maintaining a clean, safe, and professional work environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous food service, restaurant, institutional food service, or kitchen experience is a plus, but we are willing to train the right candidate!

Responsibilities

  • Assist with the daily preparation and production of meals.
  • Read, understand, and accurately follow company recipes and menus.
  • Prepare food according to established standards and procedures.
  • Assist with baking, cooking, food preparation, and meal service.
  • Provide direction, instruction, and assistance to other kitchen employees as needed.
  • Help ensure meals are prepared accurately, safely, and on schedule.
  • Maintain a clean, organized, and sanitary kitchen and work area.
  • Assist with kitchen clean-up and sanitation duties.
  • Follow all company, facility, food safety, and security policies and procedures.
  • Work effectively as part of a team while demonstrating strong leadership and communication skills.
