About The Position

York General’s Children’s Academy is seeking a dedicated Lead Cook to join our team! This role is responsible for planning, preparing, and serving nutritious meals for children in alignment with state and federal regulations. The Lead Cook ensures high-quality food service in a safe, sanitary, and welcoming environment. This position also plays a key role in maintaining kitchen operations, including cleaning, record-keeping, food purchasing, and supporting new staff. Requirements

• Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively.
• Basic computer skills (email, Word, Excel, internet navigation).
• Sound judgment and ability to work independently within assigned responsibilities.
• Must enroll in a Dietary Manager’s Course within 6 months of hire and complete it within 2 years.

Nice To Haves

• Knowledge of food program requirements, cost control, and food service management preferred.

Responsibilities

• Develop daily menus that meet food program guidelines.
• Prepare and serve meals at proper temperatures while following menus, production guides, and regulations.
• Maintain required daily logs including receiving, food temps, refrigeration/freezer temps, and sanitization records; follow HACCP standards.
• Operate and clean kitchen equipment; maintain a safe, sanitary work environment.
• Receive and store food/supplies while ensuring proper labeling, dating, and stock rotation.
• Order and purchase food items while managing inventory levels.
• Complete daily and scheduled cleaning tasks.
• Communicate operational needs and improvement suggestions to the Children’s Academy Director.
• Attend required training and provide on-the-job support for new kitchen staff.
