Lead Controls Systems Engineer, Deployment Engineering

FluidstackAustin, TX
$300,000 - $340,000Hybrid

About The Position

Fluidstack is building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI, aiming to deploy 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else. This involves rethinking every layer of the stack, from acquiring power to operating data centers. The company operates with a focus on extreme ownership, velocity, first principles, and a passion for the problem space. The Deployment Engineering Team is crucial in translating designs into operational infrastructure, ensuring a smooth transition from engineering to operations, and continuously improving deployment processes. They are responsible for making each new site deployment faster and cleaner than the last, and ensuring that the infrastructure handed over to operations is reliable from day one.

Requirements

  • Hold a bachelor's degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
  • Owned field deployment and commissioning of controls systems on industrial or mission-critical facilities from end to end.
  • Commissioned and troubleshooted PLCs, SCADA systems, and HMIs on at least one major platform (Rockwell, Siemens, Ignition, or equivalent) in live environments.
  • Built commissioning standards, acceptance test procedures, and reliability runbooks that hold up at a portfolio level, not just for a single site.
  • Diagnosed and resolved control system failures and integration issues on live or commissioning-phase infrastructure under time pressure.
  • Mentored controls engineers in the field and built their ability to commission independently.
  • Can travel to deployment and operations sites 50 to 70 percent of the time.

Nice To Haves

  • Professional Engineer (PE) license.
  • Data center BMS/EPMS experience across chilled water, HVAC, power monitoring, and data hall environmental systems.
  • Experience building or leading a controls commissioning or reliability program across multiple concurrent sites.
  • Familiarity with CMMS platforms, ISA-18.2 alarm management, and IEC 62443 control system cybersecurity.
  • Experience with controls system virtualization, remote monitoring, and automated diagnostics.

Responsibilities

  • Lead end-to-end deployment and commissioning of BMS, SCADA, and EPMS systems across concurrent greenfield sites, from pre-deployment readiness through live handover to operations.
  • Own operational reliability of deployed control systems across the live fleet, driving root cause analysis on failures and closing out permanent fixes that stop repeat incidents.
  • Build and maintain the commissioning standards, acceptance test procedures, and runbooks that any site team can execute without central support.
  • Lead integrated systems testing, functional acceptance, and live cutover on site, resolving integration failures before they delay handover.
  • Set and enforce controls reliability standards across the portfolio: alarm rationalization, control loop tuning, redundancy validation, and failover testing.

Benefits

  • Offers equity in the form of stock options.
  • Commitment to pay equity and transparency.
