Simultaneously, we help protect the business by applying our comprehensive understanding of risk and the law on issues that impact our brand, guests, team members, stores, distribution centers and corporate locations. Target’s Real Estate Law team provides end-to-end legal services in support of Target’s extensive retail, supply chain and corporate real estate portfolios. As a Lead Contract Specialist, you’ll work alongside experienced real estate attorneys and paralegals supporting a wide array of real estate transactions, including the purchase and sale of properties, leasing transactions, development and operating agreements and remodel and expansion projects. This role offers the opportunity to contribute to complex, high-impact real estate work while gaining exposure to a broad range of legal and business partners across the enterprise.

Requirements

  • Four-year college degree or equivalent combination of education and experience
  • Three to five years’ experience in role requiring project management skills and coordination with multiple teams
  • Detail-oriented and possessing excellent written, communication and organizational skills
  • Task-oriented with the ability to work independently, prioritize multiple projects, manage time efficiently and work well under pressure
  • High level of curiosity, self-motivation, initiative and organization, willingness to seek assistance and advice from others when needed
  • Flexible team player and comfortable working and collaborating with individuals at all levels within, and outside of, the organization
  • Able to establish and maintain effective and trusted relationships with both internal and external partners
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, SharePoint, OneDrive, Outlook, and Excel
  • Willingness to work in-office two to three days per week based on business needs

Nice To Haves

  • Experience with commercial real estate transactions is a plus
  • Proficiency with GenAI tools such as CoPilot and ChatGPT also a plus

Responsibilities

  • Work directly with the attorneys and paralegals on our Real Estate Law team and the business partners at Target we support
  • Interact with external parties, including title companies, outside counsel, and contracting parties
  • Facilitate real estate closings, including preparation of transmittal correspondence and memoranda, creation and tracking of closing checklists, assembly and organization of closing documents, and distribution of final closing packages to internal and external partners pursuant to established routing and signatory policies
  • Monitor and manage post-closing deliverables, including follow-up on documents recorded in the public records, rent commencement documentation, and other post-closing ancillary matters
  • Work directly with title companies to coordinate delivery of title commitments and title policies to Target attorneys and paralegals in a timely and accurate manner, review final title policy to ensure conformance with proforma policy, and review and process title company invoices
  • Ensure final closing documents and title policies are transmitted to appropriate partners for filing and retention in accordance with Target policies
  • In addition to the core responsibilities described above, job duties may include supporting the broader transactions team within the Target Law Department as priorities arise.
